I understand why you and others feel this way. I just find it incredibly underwhelming. We've been watching Ash do precisely this for over 25 years. He's basically been a Pokemon Master all this time, then. That's the "big" reveal. To me, that screams the writers don't have a clue what a Pokemon Master is, so they're just having Ash do the same thing he's been doing since the OS until he has a sudden realization that he's already achieved his goal, probably courtesy of Gary who spells it out to him, as opposed to showing what Ash has learned over the years and how he's grown. I just find it to be incredibly sloppy writing, even for Pokemon.

Yeah, and what they feel like doing, as per usual, is keeping a cashcow going without much hassle. You're comparing small little nods that mean absolutely nothing to making the entire setting of the next 3 years of anime constrained from using current characters just so Ash can breed, despite the fact that such a plot point is pointless to go ahead with since subjects like legacy and romance were never part of Ash's character, he is youthful thru and thru.

Except they didn't do it once, they have never been ballsy enough to do something as extreme as this. The anime's version of Sun and Moon ignored the game's Red/Gary cameo and, timeline wise, synched it with the present. Making a 15 year timeskip in the anime's entire setting is a very different situation from your quick small cameos in games.

Also the reverse thing, I find Ash's consistency strange.

If not for little gags like Gary humming the original theme tune I would think tpci doesn't even want to dub the show. The characters speak in near literal translations of the japanese making it sound stunted and awkward.

To this day those 3 kept theirs, which is interesting because japanese steven didn't keep his voice

Yes it is, unless they are Gary Stu who managed to get 25 years of experience in just 3 years which would make them even more unlikable. If writers thinks that they can make Riko & Roy popular by making them stronger than Ash then they are just armatures.

A smarter writing staff should already know that Ash, May and Dawn has set an standard that fans expect from all the anipoke protagonist. This is also why people reacted negatively toward Goh catching a Suicune.

Ash was like Hanamichi (Slam Dunk) and Bocchi ( Bocchi The Rock ). A protagonist who has talent but it has to work three time harder than other characters to reach their goal. Unlike Gary Stu Like Alain who gets everything handed to them for being writer's favourite.
