I agree with them. MPM was awful because it had Ash in it when it really shouldn't have. If we had less Ash, if the last time we ever saw Ash was at the end of JN, then it would have been better. Although it would have been even better than that if he never showed up again after becoming a champion in Alola, and it would have been best if he disappeared after he beat Gary in Johto and split up from Misty and Brock.

When Ash started off, he was nothing special. He has no legendary parent or ancestor, he had no special power and he wasn't even prodigy. He was basically a Zero who consistently had to fail & grow to become stronger . Even the "Aura" thing reduced to something everybody has on DP series and Ash's aura sense can only work with somebody with same aura with him. It was nowhere near Riley making a shield of aura or Iris reading minds of any Dragon Pokemon. XY and SM tried to push the whole super special Ash thing but even than the only special non-explainable thing he had was 10 million Volt.

It shows that Ash truly was the best Pokemon protagonist compared to all the self inserted Gary Stu from the game, Manga, Origin, Mega Evolution Special and PM2023.

Drew's great on his own because he has all of the qualities people like about Gary (the confidence, the incisive attitude, the earnest desire to see his rivals grow), but he's not such an asshole about it that you want to see him lose whenever he's not facing May. In that way, he's a lot like Zoey, who is also a really good rival character. He has his flaws with how far his attitude takes him, like when he gets aggressive in training his Absol, but for the most part he's levelheaded enough to keep himself from being a twerp. And despite his thorny (rose, symbolism, blah blah) personality, the dude's never not taking other people's wellbeing into consideration. On top of that, Drew is also great as part of the group dynamic that eventually forms between himself, May and Harley. Harley is as devil-may-care as they come, while Drew is highly-focused and competitive and May is somewhere vaguely in the middle depending on the situation. The only real downside to their dynamic is that I'd have liked to see Drew and Harley battle each other. Still, it was nice to have the female companion have an ongoing dynamic with a male rival. Drew was the shoujo antagonist/love interest in the way that Amethio looked like he would be for Liko; as great as Dawn was, her only chance was Kenny.

Anyway, Drew is without flaws. I have a hard time thinking about which episode best represents him, and the closest I can think of to a decisive victor is the one where he and May chase the Arcanine at the beginning of Battle Frontier.

In terms of the games, the list could go on. If they had pulled more from the manga, or even the anime for certain parts, the games could have been a lot longer in terms of storylines.

Only at the beginning due to Brock's parent being irresponsible. Its because of Ash that Flint finally took responsiblity for his family therefore freeing Brock to pursue his own dream and it also brought back his mother. In other work, Brock's broken family got together after he met Ash .

Cerulean gym was already in danger due to Misty's sisters being incompetent. But because of Ash, they got to see their sister's talent and let her become the official gym leader. Yes , Misty has become even more respectable gym leader and even has a Mega Gyarados which game Misty never gotten.

Gary is not Blue, he is just an OC that written to be Ash's first rival.

Which they were in the anime unlike the game where they were nothing more than fodder for player to beat. The only notable thing Misty did in the game was being dump by her boyfriend.

The garbage came with XY when they turned Ash into a literal one-dimensional Gary Stu. A self-insert power fantasy for kids and otakus who didn't hesitate to swallow the crap but ignored that it was a vile marketing ploy due to the low acceptance of BW anime. Self-inserters multiplied like a plague in XY. When XY ended and characters like Kirito from Sword Art Online had gone out of fashion, Ash went into another fashionable character mold of the time that ironically was diametrically opposed to the Gary Stu of amateur fanfics. That's why XY fans reacted so negatively to Alola Ash, because their fantasy of power was shattered into a thousand pieces. From XY onwards, Ash's character started to be prostituted, he became a meme, an object of audience self-insertion, especially XY.
Ash is not a power fantasy, he is not a Gary Stu, he is a very simple and ordinary character with no dreams of grandeur. The world championship meant nothing to him. I hope that if Ash returns to anime, he will do it being an unknown to everyone, someone forgotten by time but happy at the end of the day.

But skies is not isekai. And even so the MC there has a clear goal she's working towards. And events she keeps getting involved into.
Same applies to Vicky and Twisted Garden which both were mentioned here.
I'd say the other three things you mentioned are much bigger factors. And dumb as it may sound, it updates way too quickly, daily is just too much for the average person and leads to overload of information, so to speak, and doesn't let the events of the new chapter sink in. I think it would be a lot more popular if the chapters were posted every three days or so.
