The ridiculousness of Tobias stings but the pain is somewhat alleviated by that.
Unova was a complete and total regression in all sense, Kalos needn't explanation and neither does Alola even if it is the League he finally won but at the very least that one has the Kukui fight and Tapu Koko to make-up for it.
