Iris got a new english voice actor for example, despite the fact that her original VA was already in JN, her current VA sounds quite similar but is uncredited.

Pretty obvious the writers feel burdened by (and have for a while now - given early BW, XY, tonal changes in SM/JN) continuity and the presence of Ash being that last anchor to that old world

PM2023 looks like it's going to be what they wanted from Journeys, this time with a clean slate

Actually no. The people about OS don't care enough to watch the entirety of it (especially when it's three years of almost the same shit as OS to Johto) but they do care enough about Alola/JN as it is the series where Ash won.

Have him win in DP and iit's satisfying
BWs issues are immediately fixed with a new protag. His inexperience would be seen as a nostalgic throwback to Ash, at worst a rehash, much better than a frustrating retcon.
A new protagonist in XY would save us from the retarded shipper wars spawned after "amour" . Face it. The fact that it's Ash Ketchum at all is irrelevant to everything about XY.

For those that don't like Goh, then I agree, the M8 is what you'll want to jump to. If haven't watched a single episode of JN, then at least give it a try (like the first five or six episodes) so you can form your own opinion, rather than listening to what others say (regardless of whether the comments are positive/negative).

Another JN-era episode that had no "shounenshit" and was widely praised here was Lillie's return episode, which was just a family story, and people even thought that Ash and Pikachu being there actually brought that one down. People will like good episodes when they show up.
