It's fine if people such as Luis liked Animerena, but she was a terrible representation of canon Serena who was bratty, proud, competitive, smug , snarky, sassy with a lot of attitude, and an elite trainer. They nerfed Serena hard just to promote Ash.
It's about time the anime corrected its gross misrepresentation of all the game characters. Starting with Serena would be perfect. Would be cool if Gary made a quick appearance as well, and its revealed he became champion of Kanto on his first try before getting immediately dethroned by a silent trainer.
