We already saw what most of them were doing in Journeys so what would have even changed by the time of MPM? Even the companions shown (Misty, Brock, Cilan, Tracey) didn’t get any new development or resolution to their stories.

He was a perfectly good character in the OS. He had a personality, character arc, good chemistry with Brock, Misty, Pikachu etc. The problem was keeping him after the OS instead of doing what they did with MPM 20 years earlier.

Johto. Every storyline was wrapped up at the end of Johto. Ash has no purpose after that. AG-PM was pointless. Even the writers think so given how they handled MPM.

Yet it feels like a masterpiece compared to PM2023 and this was the series that tried to pander to fujo. Also MPM proven that Ash can get OS traits back if he travels with the right companions.

At the end, PM2019 major problems was the lack the dynamic interaction between characters and PM2023 kept the same problem and made it even worst by replacing Ash and TRio.

Not as boring and Uninteresting as current protagonist. If anything, MPM proven that Ash with a rotation team going on adventure is still more interesting than Liko finding her magical destiny.

I wonder what world Ash-haters lives in since writers had no problems with Ash's companion and random CotD outshining him as they have done it multiple times. If anything they had problems with anybody outshining Alain considering how they reduced Manon into Alain's pet and won't even let him lose untill he becomes a Master Eight member and only allowed lose to undefeated Leon.

Honestly MPM was the right direction for the Pokemon anime overall. An episodic anime on Ash's adventure with a rotation team in new region with battles and serious arc in the middle like "Latius & Latios" arc. Ash simply needs a good companion with better group dynamic like OS and DP trio. The anime also need to remove remaining baggage like Ash's unsettled score with Alain.

Comedy, Battle, Competition and Shipping is what kept Anipoke running which the current series lacks.
