Nope Ash got reset in XY SM JN MPM and arguably in AG DP as well and maybe even Johto if you want to stretch it. Also Ash isn't good enough to take out bad guys it takes more than strength to hunt down criminals

DP had a plot device with legendary Pokemon, BW reset him and XY&Z was too weak willed & spineless to pick Ash over Alain.

no that was also Johto, AG, DP, BW, XY, SM, JN, and MPM. All of them reset Ash into a different person and also reset all his skill so he couldn't be champion

No, there is no "Ashs personality" The ep was more nostalgia b8 that no boomers even watched. it was a nothing burger that was gone the very next ep.
Ash has had 5 personalities throughout the series OS, AG-DP(the best one), BW, XY, and SM-JN.

they bring back an old personality for 1 ep and still not keeping it for the whole of MPM just shows that either they don't care or only see the ep as nothing more than cheap nalsagia gains.

looking back I can not believe just how fucking bad MPM was I'm glad no one watched it, not even the Boomers skipped Thursday night football to tune-in

MPM 02 has proven that what people truly wanted was another Misty/Dawn but prettier and cooler. Amourshipping died when Yajima tied to make a "Hinata" out of her. If he just made Serena more like Dawn but with a cooler & smarter personality than Amourshipping would have been the best ship but he decided to take inspiration from the one manga that is known for poorly developed female characters and romantic plots.

How long has it been since we had a strong quirky girl like Misty and Dawn in the cast? Since XY to Horizon, we only getting the same archetype of passive girl trying to find a dream. The only interesting girl we had in the cast in 4 series is Lana.

The reception of MPM 02 should have taught the writing staff a lot of thing. It shown that people like smug sassy Ash who does not hesitate to roast his companion, it also shown that people loves casual banter between the cast. It also proven that people loved implied romantic scene that can interpreted in different way rather than direct romantic scene. But writing staff would just ignore it because its collide with their fanfiction.

I'll say this, Latias and Misty lost the least with Latias' kiss being irrefutably canonized and Misty not only being Ash's final companion and all of Episode 2 of MPM. Characters like May, Dawn, and Serena lost hard. May can never have speaking role again as long as the original voice actress is alive. For some unholy reason, Dawn's character is placed in complete stasis after more than a decade so that doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon. Serena never got to speak to Ash after XY and she is left on the docks watching him sail into the sunset.

I watched MPM entirely, as for JN, I also just checked it out occasionally.
I lost all hope when the artstyle revealed Ash to look like a Dora the Explorer ripoff and especially when Lance (fucking LANCE!!!!) lost to Leon in a 1VS1!!! Not 6VS6, not even 3VS3, but a 1VS1. Talk about cheap!!!! And even with cheap animation they could have made it look cool but it wasn't.
Can you imagine that!? A battle between the strongest champions and OLM just shitted out a low effort 1VS1 batttle and it was EXTREMELY LOW TIER for what was supposed to be a clash of the decade.

OKAY I WILL ADMIT THE M05 LATIAS REVEAL WAS KINO. I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT AND THEY KEPT HER IN THE ORIGINAL OSXY ARTSTYLE SO I TAKE MY WORDS BACK I AM NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT JN IT WAS UNIRONICALLY WORTH IT.
But really, the OG Latias cameo redeemed JN for me. Like unironically.
