Seriously, it as if the show-runner think kids to hate unfriendly rivals only because fans hated Trip. They does not want to acknowledge that the people hated Trip because he was a poorly written character.

Hoenn's still a bit mixed though, the villains were done badly and they asspulled a rival at the last minute with Morrison. Then they blew their load too early with the league battles. Tyson's battle was nowhere near as good as the battle with Katie or even the second half of the Morrison battle. May spamming assist in every contest wasn't good either. Hoenn's definitely better with how it handles filler but Sinnoh takes the same ideas Hoenn introduces and improves upon them. Only real problem is the voices, you get more VAs but the quality is all over the place.
