On one hand, it doesn't feel like PM Ash deserves to win this tournament. On the other, they have absolutely built up the expectation that Ash WILL win it, so if they make Leon lose it will also be a bad writing choice for them.

So we're getting either the most underwhelming victory in the anime or yet another anticlimatic loss.

When do pokemon stop being 'new captures' to you? None of the game protags had their pokemon longer than a year. Ash has had Pikachu for less than a year. Hell, given SM to PM is a 9 month leap, OS to SM is all <3 months. Ash's Pikachu with less than 3 months experience defeated Drake's Dragonite, Brandon's Regice, Tobias's Darkrai and Tapu Koko. All of those opponents being worthy of the E4.

Really. The 'new capture' take is just asinine. I don't care if Cynthia has had her Garchomp since she first became a trainer. Ash has been defeating adult trainers with decades of experience over him for ages now. Even with his newest captures. Pretending Cynthia is anything special in this regard is silly.

She was literally never meant to be a main character but mandates probably forced them to try and make her relevant (but then mandates gave up when they realized she's a literal nothing character with no actual goals, personality, charm or general coomer appeal since PM is a fujo anime).

There has been no evidence that suggest Project Mew is building up towards to Go's departure. People are just assuming that is the case because of previous. They did the same thing today with the Koharu when everyone assumed this would wrap up the Eevee storyline and it didn't. We just don't know what will happen in the future. PM shook things up from the old ways so assuming things will go back to the old "new gen front and center with their Pokemon and characters are the central focus" seems a bit foolish to me.

Ash may not even spend a lot of time in Paldea. It could be like Galar and only get the occasional episode.

Fact of the matter is we don't know because nothing is confirmed.

Goh is tied to Koharu and Galar (galar trio as his partners.) He’s also tied to project mew as it doesn’t seem likely at this point in the series that it will be completely concluded in PM. The only way he continues as the main Ash bro is if the Sakuragi research assistant plot continues. Let’s be real, the staff aren’t continuing that for another 140+ episodes.

It does sound like that indeed, PM is going to conclude on screen as I always said it would, as I never bought the argument people were making that PM was Goh's ticket out of the anime. If Goh leaves, it will not be because of PM.

PM isn't ending lol. This is why Koharu's dumb Eevee storyline got a "to be continued...". They are going to incorporate gen 9 stuff into the enime just like they did with gen 8. Anyone thinking we are getting an SV anime is delusional.

The highlights of JN were old characters mainly and to some extent the masters 8.
But the way it's going and the prospect of SV having 3 progression routes to do which will devide attention and budge again, I might consider quitting it too after PM depending on the continuation.
