The problem is not episodic format.
There's a lot of single-episode episodes. Yes, even on PM.
The problem is that they REFUSE to give the episodes that require more than one episode, well, more than one episode.
One of the many problems anyway. But this is a very critical one.

The anime has been dicksucking Ash for a while so I'd like to see him get a crushing loss for once.
His PM team doesn't feel right or earned. It will never feel earned just because the mons are out of character for him.
Even Melmetal and Naganadel felt more organic than PM.
