Ash went though 23 years of onscreen character development to become a champion of a village region. Ash's Dragonite is friendly with everybody so there is nothing special with Iris befriending it.
Even May and Dawn had more character development than her but nether one of them became champion even though players characters meant to surpass the champion of their region. Iris had no character development and jobbed to Clair's new caught Druddigon that she recently caught and suddenly PM expect me to believe she became champion level trainer onscreen!
