It sounds silly, I know, but Ash and Pikachu were both a big part of my childhood, so it's hard. Even though I wasn't thrilled with Ash's handling in recent years, I still enjoyed his character and hoped that he would improve. Goh I liked from the start; he was a genuinely fun character, and although I had issues with his handling just like with Ash, I enjoyed his stories be it the ones that were goal-related like PM, the ones where he helped a Pokemon of his solve its problem, or the ones that gave insight into his past.

I was thinking about Ash's team when he eventually returns as a secondary (mentory?) character and I realized I couldn't tell which one was his true regional ace in the seventh gen anime.

Idk about you but based on those two last PM episodes, the PM series as as a whole and that 11 episode epilogue, it looks to me like everyone wins. As in, Misty, Brock, Tracey, May, Max, Dawn, Iris, Cilan, Serena, Clemont, Bonnie, Lana, Lillie, Mallow, Kiawe, Sophocles, Goh and Koharu. PM is basically the last hurrah for basically all of us Ashnime fans and now that it's officially confirmed, I'd like to say that it's been an honor being on /padt/.

yes, that poster is for PM137, the last episode of the PM series airing next week featuring AU ash randomly enough. the trailer for the 11 episode series features PM ash and begins in january

XY was the beginning of the end, and this isn't me hating on XY. When Ash lost the Kalos league the entire anime franchise shifted. Ash wasn't allowed to lose anymore which is why he won Alola's memeleague. After that the writers had him become the best of the best and because of that are retiring him. The big thing here is Alola, while boring as fuck, worked with establishing character beats for Ash that could be carried forward. The issue with PM is that it was so poorly done and disgusting that they never did anything with Ash and simply had him "become the best battler" and ended his story. There were so many possibilities that could have happened had they continued the old "journey" narratives instead of the school/yokaiwatch shit.

>Ash loses Kalos
>Goes to Alola for a training arc/helps establish a league there
>Goes to Galar and enters the canonical "hardest" gym challenge where the best trainer in the world is

Even if Ash won Kalos he could go to Alola, help establish a league, then go on to fight the world championships. The story is all there but because of the backlash and hard change in formula for Ashs journey things flatlined hard. Add in a shitty male companion, no clear story checkpoints and PM wound up being a disaster for what have been a simple "world tour of nostalgia."
