>>57624635Well, the introduction of proper fansubs of Indigo League did confirm that there were some Pokéshipping teases, sometimes even more blatant than from 4Kids, but unlike in 4Kids, it was never intended to be taken seriously and was largely phased out by Johto and thereafter. The problem was that 4Kids treated it like it was semi-serious/semi-canonical and kept injecting Pokéshipping teases even into AG: as an example, during a scene in the Jirachi movie when Ash is talking to Max and trying to comfort him about having to give up Jirachi soon, sub Ash talks about how Jirachi will always remember the week it spent with Max, even though it'll go into hiberation for a thousand years; in the dub, 4Kids has Ash instead talk about friendship and then mention an old female friend of his that he misses every day, who goes unnamed but is very clearly Misty. While it's true that Misty's lure continued to appear into DP in Ash's possession, stuff like that Jirachi movie dialogue edit was 4Kids literally inventing shipteases that didn't exist in the original script, not organic continuity callbacks like the Misty lure appearances. It's no wonder that once TPCi took over dubbing from 4Kids, any pretense about Pokéshipping being legit disappeared.
(Just ask the anon who just watched sub Jirachi a few weeks ago; he'll confirm there was no Misty mention.)
