For one, palworld is attempting to get bigger. They started making merchandise and made a deal with Sony. They're releasing the full version next year. They see profit there, course they'd chase it. That's likely why Tpc sued at all. "Competitors" are only allowed to exist if they aren't worth the effort. Yokai watch got close and suddenly died off. Then palworld got close and got sued. Hm.
Yokai watch, smt, and Digimon get overlooked or belittled by pokefags so sell meh to poorly. There's multiple threads here comparing ZA to Digimon already, with fans attacking each other's brands like it's a competition. You'd think most monster collectors would sell as well as Pokémon. But they don't, not because of quality, but because of brand loyalty. Palworld threatened that brand loyalty so got more backlash than other games in the genre.
I don't think palworld is unique here, just the reason tpc and fans react but ignore other titles in the genre they supposedly like seems related to reception in comparison to Pokémon. Palworld was super popular for what it was, and still has a dedicated fanbase, yet pokefags are still seething, calling it a dead game and Pokémon rip off. Even though it's more like Ark and most ark fans said fuck yeah more Ark.
