Gigalith joined the team because I wanted something super effective against ice types for team Plasma, then Heracross replaced Accelgor and may have left it a bit obsolete already. Don't really have anything I'd want to replace it with so for now we'll wait and see.
Marlon is probably the worst 8th gym leader, he's always a joke so with 2 coils Prouder just walked over him.

In spite of the limited Pokemon pool and the insanely jank actual gameplay, Gen 1 is in fact a very quick game to just pick up and play. On the other hand, DP is a slog AND in spite of supposedly more or less the same number of available Pokemon the ones available are even more dogshit, while BW has a similar sized pool of Pokemon and they're better AND the actual game design is even more smooth, but the cutscenes hinder the playability somewhat (it's not SM levels of bad but so few things are). SS is just a bad JRPG, while SV is also a bad JRPG but it isn't trying to be one in spite of the mechanics saying otherwise so again you've got to play it in a different way to have fun with it (nothing wrong with that, better than DP/XY/SS simply not being fun).

The problem is that while we've gotten some more interesting plots, their presentations have gotten more kiddie, with lots more unnecessarily hammy dialogue and "power of friendship" bullshit whereas the early games' plots, while cartoonish, were at least presented in kind of a snappy, painless way.

SM/USUM had more focus on the actual Pokémon than any other title did. I can't tell if its because Ohmori truly gave a fuck then, or if it was a collaborative effort on behalf of everyone trying their best without Masuda whipping them for once.

Probably the best it's ever been, like the only person on here who consistently actively dislikes it is Yawnfag and the rest of the internet has realized the positive qualities of the games overall. Like the only other Pokemon games that really need reanalyzed at this point are USUM for being better than SM in every way that matters and XY without the crutch of really good online holding it up (which would require people to replay XY which is probably not going to happen for a bit).

If I were a betting man, my money'd be on them running a retrospective of the 30 years prior, before something of the ilk of SV, where they reveal some of the stuff in the upcoming game in live-action, before landscape shots of the region with existing pokémon before finishing up with a live-action shot of the starters in a painting/picture/poster/oplushiue form and dropping the mic.
But then again, I only have 27 years' fandom behind me and only ever been moving into middle age when they hit their 20th year, so I may be wrong. But I know you're just as wrong for thinking they're going to drop in-engine shots of the starters before May/June.

GS and RS had Baby Pokemon.
DP had a bunch of new Evolutions, plus Regigigas.
XY had Megas.
SM and SwSh had Regional Variants.

Having it be planned for the original SM which itself was the 20 year anniversary celebration makes RR being a thing actually make sense as a nice homage to the anniversary. Having it seemingly shoehorned into the post-game of USUM is a travesty when putting it in that context.
