OS had Gary, AG had no one, DP had Paul, BW had Trip, XY had Shota and Alain, SM has no one since Ash never fucking battles anyone. None of the Alola trainers he's fought have had any real "Rival" feel to them. Mainly because there are no fucking battles in this series. Hau appeared in one episode then fucked off. RM isn't a rival but more of a recurring character/mentor - we know its Kukui so it feels like a dad trying to help his son so there's no real rivalry aspect in that at all. No, here's the best way to put it. Hau and Royal Mask are the Sanpei of SM. They exist to strengthen only one of Ashs few Pokemon.
