To make a trip 'last longer' so as to not feel like they just arrived at their destination I had several cuts to flash backs between small interactions. The changing to a different scene inherently makes the reader feel like time has passed, but I also got a lot of complaints about the pacing of the flash backs so your mileage will vary.
I also include 'mundane' activities like camping, eating, and resting. Provides opportunities for character interactions.
