>>56842108NTA but he is pretty much on point, and is simply using the Naruhina ship as he assumes due to the general popularity of Naruto that people would be familiar with the common critiques that were thrown towards that ship, and thus you using your general familiarity with internet anime culture, to get an idea of the flaws with Ash and Serenas relationship as the 2 ships are quite similar, and considering how much else Pokemon took from Naruyo during X&Y and XY&Z, it being a reasonable guess as to the execs at Pokemon deciding upon this.
But anyhow, the problem with Ash and Serenas relationship is that it is never really established what is it that they have in common, what they could potentially bond and connect over, beyond the generic “loves pokemon, and is willing to protect her friends”, which is something that literally every single good guy character, and even many of the bad guy characters, have in Pokemon.
And thats where the core of the problem is, because it means that whenever you do have scenes of Ash and Serena interacting with one another, you end up with very little to work with in terms of exploring their relationship and bond in meaningful and interesting way, it all always boils down to “Ash is super confident and supportive, and never gives up on his dreams, which inspires Serena to not give up on her dreams and try to be a stronger person”, and then you have it swapped in XY&Z ep28, where Serena goes to snap Ash out after he stops acting as the person who inspired her to become stronger.
Which this is all fine and everything, but its all just very generic, and it doesnt tell me anything about how Ash and Serena are made for eachother, but instead all I get from it is how Ash can inspire people, which is true for literally every single person Ash meets in the XY series, and thus I dont get any reason to believe how Ash and Serenas relationship is something special, the only thing which makes Ashs relationship with Serena cont.
