Canari got a boring explosion of generic fanart that just exists to depict her, sometimes in a void for no reason other than artists like the design. Emma isn't a deeper character than Canari, but you'll probably find higher quality images of her ass than you would Canari. This is probably why people assumed Pokemon Z was inevitable, because they played XY and thought surely this is a base DP situation. The base game of Emerald isn't a huge jump from RS, even if it is the definitive one.

Literally the events of the game continuously call back to XY's events but then knows XY's story was so bad it had to rewrite everything anyway. It's a sequel that hates the source material
