If you want to actually experience pokemon don’t skip the post game and add pokemon colosseum and xd gale of darkness before or after emerald.
If pokemon breeding is too autistic for you then its fine to gen for shortcuts or gen mons in general.
After BW2, assuming you want more of the gameplay and battle experience then XY, ORAS, USUM are all fine experiences as well. SWSH after that decides to drop the post game content entirely, force exp share and SWSH doesn’t even have all the starters so your interest there may wane. There is some post game content in SWSH if you buy the dlc and dynamax adventures is an interesting Co-op experience but thats it. SV is basically the epitome of all the bad things + open world slop but the battle system is still preserved and the pokemon lineup is better than SWSH.
