Yes, Ash has always been on good terms with his Pokemon, but Ash specifically going out of his way to mimic movements and attacks alongside his Pokemon, not to mention flinching himself when they get hit, wasn't something that was done before XY, even with Pikachu. You can maybe argue it's just a shounen trope, but it wasn't a thing in BW or anything before that.
>>49847468This is a strange pair to cite as examples. Noivern was in the same team that introduced the idea so they weren't abusing it as much yet. Dracovish has appeared a single time after getting captured so he hasn't really had the opportunity to do much in general.
>>49847496I wasn't saying that aura isn't something that helps along with it and I wasn't saying he's literally replicating Battle Bond, but in several instances we've seen him doing similar things with his other Pokemon (I can think of times he did it with Lycanroc, Dragonite and Gengar). They didn't really do this sort of thing back in BW or any of the series before that. I guess you could argue it's just an animation flourish but it's just something I've noticed.
