I already know what your counterargument was going to be "They set up Misty first" But here's the sad truth, most of the OS demographic couldn't care less if Ash and Misty end up together, they probably think it happened already. The amour demographic watches every episode with the hope that Serena will get at least some acknowledgemnt. The franchise is being loyal to people who are much less loyal to it
