We are talking about weekly anime with not many break. As you know, weekly anime can't maintain the same animation quality in every episode. Furthermore, animation is always known for their ridiculously hard work with low pay. One animator from OLM.INC has said that working in a glossary store pays more than animation studio.
Yajima also admitted that they were given one year to finish. To have weekly anime to have movie quality animation in one year time, it was a production hell.
Unfortunately all those hard work were wasted because some higher up's shameless pandering towards his self insert which lead to him screwing the show's narrative to glorify his Gary Stu self insert which resulted one of the biggest social media backlash.
At the end, SM low quality battle animation was the result of XY&Z screwing all the animators hard work to the studio never saw any point to maintaining sakuga anymore.
