>>46915283Pokemon society falls down on closer inspection, but let's do the thought experiment anyway and see if we can make it fit into something realistic.
First: eco system.
Do you think it's realistic that a lot of alpha predator pokemon run around, or are those rightfully rare simply looking at predator/prey ratios?
second: trainer obedience
this is an ingame mechanic even. Do you think Joe Shmoe can tame and command a Goodra
but it's not a game. How long do you need to even train a regular dog properly.
And depending on where you are in the world, you need your dog leashed or muzzled in certain places, and you need registration too
third: economic
what money is there in pokemon training, take from other trainers? that's just a loop.
The most true to the games explanation might be research subsidies for those sent out by pokemon researchers
or special (military-like) training to keep wildlife and criminals in check.
but a rando got bills to pay, they have to have their real jobs which limits the type of pokemon they can keep, but even IRL there are enough people with exotic pets they can't properly care for.
again, Pokemon society falls down on closer inspection
but simply taking our world and adding pokemon, where a 14yo can take it's dads ball with a Tyrannitar to school to go on a rampage, it's not quite realistic, is it?
but theres enough food for thought for a fanfic if anyone wants to look at it like that
