I would always catch a dugtrio as soon as possible, you could basically steamroll the whole game once you had him. It doesn't hurt that you can catch him at Lv:30 before you beat misty either

I have all of it, or at least, everything I could find. Me and a few friends of mine were remaking Red in full cell shaded 3-D in Sugimoris original water coloured style, so I went out of my way to get my hands on as much as I could.
I wish we would have finished that game to be honest, we got as far as translating the TBS into real time battles and then just sort of stopped working on it

The link battles, honestly I don't see the appeal in high level battling, or ''competetive'' battling, in-game team battling at balanced levels is always the best kind.

Because of WING ATTACK being 35 POWER (The same as its fellow FLYING MOVE, PECK!), all PIDGEOT has for "good" FLYING MOVES are SKY ATTACK TM and FLY HM! And both are two-turn MOVES!
Both FEAROW and DODRIO have DRILL PECK! DRILL PECK is the superior MOVE of GEN 1!

I was playing through Blue for the past week. Clocked in 25 hours just before the E4 when my save file ate itself last night. Odd because the battery still seems to be fine, so I dunno what the hell happened. My team of 48 Charizard, Pidgeot, Raichu, Nidoking, Starmie, and Alakazam are now gone.

Sad because I was going to do some serious playing in Pokemon Stadium with this file too.

I'll share a secret. This game is haxed and it's not even bad if you prepare for it. Koga new the way to play the game. In gen one you can have mortal combat style combos. It's the toxic/ wrap combo. Toxic first then wrap. Dragonite is nearly invisible. And it works with fire spin and clam. In gen 1 those moves prevent others from attacking which is balls to the wall. This turns tangela into tankela. Also super speedy times that seem to be week defensively, such as Rapidash and Tentacrool become sweepers. It also possibly makes Cloyster the best pokemon in the game with a moveset of Rest, Toxic, Clamp, and Ice Beam/ Blizzard. Considering mine at lv. 100 has a plus 400 defense.

Im not a very patient persion, so i only use 3 pokemon in my team. My favorite place was mewtwo's cave. I've always just wanted sit there with him, meditate and trade thoughts would be cool. And i imagined it would be warm in there for some reason. Favorite pokemon was blastoise and snorlax. Favorite item was hyper potion. The only silly thing i did was tap A and B when i throw a pokeball, i still tap A for good luck though.

I had a lot of fun with my golem. Him with rock slide / rock throw always put those disgusting birds down.
Expecially articuno and charizard. For all of the suspicious sandstone jokes with charizard, all of the legendary birds eat shit just as hard from rocks.

All of the rare pokemon in the safari zone were impossible to catch. I think back in 2nd grade, I knew about 40 people who played rby, and none of them caught any of the 'rare' pokemon from the safari zone. And in all my life, I've only ever caught a scyther on the luckiest ball-on-first-turn without using an emulator to essentially cheat.

I don't know how anyone would ever actually finish their pokedex without going insane trying to catch a chansey or kangkaskhan when they always run on the first turn, even with bait.

I did it in FireRed, collecting all 150 of the originals. So that meant Chansey, Tauros, Scyther, Pinsir, all of those fucks. No Cinnabar/Seafoam glitching either. That shit took me hours.

I was playing Yellow recently and managed to catch all but Chansey. I could throw all 30 at one CHansey and they would all say "The ball missed". Not even it broke free from the ball, just the ball missed it totally

Yeah, that just means that the odds of catching it are so low, the game just trolls you by saying "lol it missed." If the HP is the same, you'll always get the same Poke Ball response (miss, 1 wobble, 2 wobble, etc) until it runs or you catch it.

Well I congratulate you. You certainly have at least 10 times more patience than I do. I don't want to think how much grinding it would have taken just to bait out and catch the rare ones from the safari zone.

But, if I'm correct, I think that they nerfed how everything worked by Firered in contrast to gen 1. Was it harder in gen 1? or harder in gen 3?

I'd say gen 3 was harder, but that's only because I used glitches to help catch the Safari Zone Pokemon in actual battles. Had I not done that, I'd say they're about the same. I don't know the differences programming-wise between gen 1 and gen 3 that would make it harder or easier for one, or if it would be noticable to a person playing.

Has anyone ever been able to get a legit Shiny Mew in Generation II? It needs to have the correct DVs (pre-Generation III IVs) for it to be Shiny and it has to be a Generation I Mew since a Generation II event Mew is programmed to never be Shiny. Pic related, I traded it from Japanese Red to Japanese Crystal but it isn't Shiny (I know it won't come up as Shiny in the Pokédex but it isn't Shiny).

Curious. Do you play the GB games on emulator and then use the save files with Stadium? I'm probably going to do this with Yellow because my hard copies are old and somewhat faulty. Transfer Pak errors, saves failing, tired of replacing dem batteries, etc.

Yes, basically

Project 64 has the ability to take the save files from the emulated games and it emulates the Transfer Pak, with the saves loaded in it.

I have a Stadium 2 and Crystal file filled with Pokemon that I trained, alongside a friend, for months in order to battle each other last year on a projector infront of other friends.

It was kickass.

I remember being stupid and thinking you can do the shit in the anime in the games. Like trying to get Pikachu to defeat Onix, going to the filler towns by using the SS Anne, Getting Togepi and going to the Orange Islands.

I had and Level 100 Blastoise but I deleted by file out of shame and boredom because I could get Mewtwo(and I didn't believe I would get Mew at the time either).

I beat the Elite Four millions of times with shitty Pokemon in my party.

I had no clue what attacks were powerful or not. Here was my move set if I recall:

Bubblebeam(I used this alot)
Strength
Surf
Mega Punch(Good attack to give)

I remember Lavender Town was my favorite.

I remember being surprised at finding out Cinnabar Island.

Those were the days.

Another incident that amused me arose from the Gen 1 mechanics where all the moves had a miss chance. Training my Dragonair (And boy was training that thing a pain in the ass...) on Victory Road. Graveler appears. In typical wild Graveler fashion, it Selfdestructs. /Miss

Favorite place? Hard to say. I was always pretty fond of Vermillion, being a port town and all, but I think Cerulean had the coolest music. I've also always had sort of a soft spot for Veridian Forest as far as Kanto is concerned. Possibly due in part to it having Pikachu, which turns into... this guy. Incidentally, Surge was NOT my favorite Gym Leader, despite his Raichu usage.

My nigger! Best friend when I was younger had one of these, we would often have ridiculous Monster Brain powered battles with all lv.100s with ridiculous movesets... Worked with Gen 2 as well, iirc.
