You can, but Gengar is faster, so either

So taunt Gengar on the Sub, wait for either the Shadow ball or the switch.

Works for Both Bisharp and Mega mawille.

Run fire punch on mega Mawille and it can expect a Scizor counter or run Iron head for other faries.

Its only 2 weaknesses are Fire and Ground, Fairy is resisted by Fire and Poison. after one SD it will have 1180 attack so will it even matter at that point? I plan on using SD and Draining Kiss to make up for the low speed, with higher defenses it should manage to tank a hit to get the Draining attack out, and the massive attack should OHKO or get close to it enough to get enough HP back for the next hit
I'm thinking of Crunch or Fire Punch as another move for coverage not sure.

The move counts as going off if it hits the sub.
Hence the sub breaking. If you use it twice in a row, Gengar would only lose 25% due to sub and then disable the iron head not allowing you to move next turn.

Plus taunting the disable the second turn would still stop you from using disable again in the next 3-5 turns. That's your main STAB move. Taunt and Iron Head make up half your moveset.

We're gonna have to theorymon hard about this. Like, what would Mawile even be running besides that

Offensively, it just got more reason for people to spam Iron Head, Gyro Ball, and Bullet Punch off some of the most common Pokemon today in OU.

Basically, make the Gengar think he's got you with disabled STAB, Taunt while he predictably disables it, Then sucker Punch him or Predict a Switch/Set up.

said Draining Kiss is an HP Draining Stab move. Fire Punch would take care of Ferrothorn and Scizzor. I don't think Fire Types are bulky enough to tank a 60 BP + Stab 1180 Attack Move that it resists.

Some calcs would be nice. Here's Shadow Ball on a normal Mawile
252 SpA Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mawile: 211-250 (69.4 - 82.23%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Assuming 252 HP / 252 Atk on Mawile. Now, Mawile was said to be bulkier, so let's assume it gets +20 on each defense.
252 SpA Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Mawile: 166-196 (54.6 - 64.47%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
So Shadow Ball is about a 2HKO unless we give it like +30, in which case Gengar only has a change to KO. This is also assuming SubDsiable, so no LO.

Mawile is going to have to be careful around Gengar, and has some really deep theorymon in the argument. So discuss I guess

Iron head takes down the Sub.

Gengar now has a choice. Resub or Disable Iron head.

You taunt either way. Now he HAS to Shadow ball you. And you still have Sucker Punch.

So he'll switch, What can resist those two moves well? Another Steel type, Carry Fire punch.

Scizor and ferrothorn are not surviving those for long.

Even at 252/252 HP/Defense on a Bold Gengar, Adamant 252 Attack unboosted Bisharp still 2KOs with Iron Head.

Considering 252 SpA Gengar Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Mawile: 211-249 (69.4 - 81.9%) accounting a neutral hit, the Mega Evolution probably won't boost that to a 20% damage decrease to save it from the 2KO. From there you'd be left with at least half your health off and only sucker punch/fire punch if Gengar opts to attack instead from his very safe position. Then you could switch something like Tyrannitar in and be 100% safe to set up or OHKO.

How did you use both taunt and iron head in the same turn?

Assuming both started at neutral, if Gengar keeps spamming substitute until you use taunt, he's behind a substitute once you use taunt. If you kept spamming iron head and Gengar uses disable, he disabled your iron head that turn, used substitute the next turn, and you used taunt instead of breaking his sub, putting him behind a sub.

There's no way he wouldn't end up behind a sub unless the player was plain incompetent or there are other factors.

I think the big thing that'll prevent ghosts from dominating the tier is the fact that Shadow Ball is only BP 80. What really made Fighters and Dragons so damn powerful was they got super powerful moves like Outrage, Draco Meteor, and Close Combat.

imo curbing those moves would be the biggest thing to making the metagame more balanced but that's a different subject

Its a little silly that they would remove the ghost weakness from steel, i mean did they not see that ghost would go rampaging without that type resisting it. Dark can only do so much since its resistances arent anything that special.

What really bugs me is the fact that they have time to take away to resistances from steel, but dont bother adding any resistances to ice. Like what the hell.
