ITT: Pokémon you would change the stat distribution of.

Pic related, I'd switch Sceptile's special attack stat with it's physical attack stat. Leaf Blade was it's signature, and it has a far superior physical movepool (Rock Slide, X-Scissor, Dragon Claw, Earthquake, Thunderpunch for example).

I'd swap Rampardos's HP with its Speed, then take maybe 20 or 30 points off its Special Attack and split them between Speed and HP. This would put it a little above 100 base Speed, just fast enough for it to work as a frail sweeper and actually exploit that 165 base Attack. I'd leave a token amount of Special Attack in because GF seems allergic to making anything's less useful attacking stat a really low number and so that if for some reason you actually want to use special moves with it during single-player mode they'll do non-zero damage.

Also, does it bother anyone else that Rampardos, of all things, CAN'T have Rock Head?

I'd trim away a bunch of Hypno's Attack stat, since it's too low to be useful anyway, and redistribute it between Special Attack and bulk. Maybe take away a little Speed for the purpose as well, since Hypno's already slow. May as well focus on special tanking, which is sort of where its stats lean to begin with. Also, just look at it. Does it look fast, or like something that would be able to hit you hard with its body?

I'd make Emboar actually bulky by trimming down its Speed and adding the trimmings to its Defense and Special Defense stats. It's too slow to be a conventional sweeper anyway, but with the boosts to its defenses it now actually has some prayer of being a tank and thus doing something the other FireFighters can't do. It'd also make it a better Trick Room sweeper, which seems to be the main good use for it right now anyway.

Also, it's a fat tub of guts that has no business being even slightly fast. It'd make more sense as a Fire/Fighting Snorlax.

Yeah. Hell, even with my proposal of giving it better Speed, it still wouldn't be broken since it would most likely die to a single Mach Punch, Bullet Punch, or Aqua Jet.

I like that. Unpopular opinion, but Tepig/Pignite/Emboar are among my favourite Pokémon and I'd love it if it was a little more usable, or at least not so utterly overshadowed by anthro furbait trash Blaziken and Infernape.

Just put most of Persian's not-that-impressive-to-begin-with Special Attack into its Attack. Persian now has stats that actually make sense for a big cat, and can actually hurt things.

Castform learns practically zero physical moves by any means, so take damn near all of that shitty 70 base Attack and split it between its other stats. Its BST is low enough that even after you did this it still wouldn't be very good, but it would be better than it is right now.

I just want a hypno where hypnosis is actually a good viable move to use, it's in his name for crying out loud.

Also, give it a goddamn sandstorm form. A Rock-type form. There is absolutely no reason for it not to have one, especially since Weather Ball becomes Rock-type in sand as is. Also, it would have an interesting niche as a Rock-type special attacker, and thanks to the coverage moves it gets in other types and the special defense it would get from sandstorm as a Rock-type sand form would probably be its best form anyway.

Take at least half of that Special Attack Pinsir isn't using (it barely even learns any special moves) and put it into Speed. Pinsir is now much faster than Heracross, giving it a bit more differentiation from the bug that's traditionally overshadowed it.

I don't see how it'd make him OP, the only ones at the moment he has with low Base Accuracy are Hypnosis, Poison Gas, Toxic and Swagger, and the latter three tend to hit more often than Hypnosis does anyway.

Take 10 points each from Pidgeot's base HP, Defense, Special Attack, and Special Defense, and add them to its Speed. Remember that Pokédex entry saying Pidgeot could fly at Mach 2? Now it can. And none of its stats in other areas are changed that much individually.

I know this guy wouldn't mind 55 sp. atk if it meant having 120/95/95 defenses. The only way to get even better would be to get slack off and maybe aqua jet.

Or you could do that and swap his offensive stats so he can really abuse scald and his nearly equal special movepool. But I think physical attacks are more his thing.

Well, it's kind of the most obvious thing to do in a lot of cases. I wouldn't do it for everything, though. I did that Emboar post, and I kept its somewhat lower Special Attack stat intact because I think being able to go mixed has been a consistent and important theme with the Fire/Fighting starters. It was already sort of distinguished as the slower, bulkier FireFighter, though, so I just pushed it further in that direction until it was different enough for the difference to actually be useful for something.

Similarly, I didn't take all of the base stat points that I put into Pidgeot's Speed from its Special Attack, because although Pidgeot isn't a powerful special attacker it does get quite a few special moves by level up and to ignore that would kind of screw up the experience of raising one.

Here's a no-brainer: Swap Unfezant's Attack and its Special Attack, so that it has stats appropriate for its rather special-leaning movepool, as well as a nice bit of differentiation from the other regional early-game Normal/Flying-type birds. This wouldn't exactly make it good, but it would make it considerably more interesting.

Take some points out of Kingler's Special Attack and its Speed (seriously, it's a crab with a giant claw the Pokédex says it can barely lift, why does it have even 75 base Speed) and move them into HP and Special Defense. Kingler's good Defense stat is now backed up by something and it can unleash those powerful Crabhammers with confidence.

Here's another one that doesn't sacrifice any of either attacking stat: Notice Beedrill's 80 base Special Defense. Oddly high in comparison with its other defensive stats, no? Especially since it's an early game bug and a lot of common special attacks are in types it's weak to and will just paste it regardless. Take 35 away from that Special Defense -- returning it to 45, the value of its base Special in Gen I -- and add 26 to Speed and 9 to Attack. Beedrill now has a trollish base Speed and a useable if not especially impressive base Attack, so while it won't be good, it will at least get a hit in rather than just being sweeper fodder. And the only cost is making its defenses as good as they were in Gen I.

OP here, I just just interested to see what Pokémon people would change to make them more powerful. It's a nice way to speculate on the things you don't like about your favourite designs. In my case it was Sceptile.

Frequent replier to this thread here. As I've tried to show in some of my examples (e.g. Emboar, Unfezant, Beedrill), sometimes there's something else that's worth doing instead of just doing the obvious and sacrificing the weaker attacking stat.
