Every Pokemon is OU until they actually decide early gen bans and get the period of everyone trying out all the new Pokemon only out of the way.

Things like Florges are not going to stay top used long, things like Galvantula, Mawile and Kangaskhan are not going to stay anywhere near low tier. Manaphy isn't staying non-uber so long as it has Tail Glow.

Now, according to the chart, I'm a Smogonfag. But, assuming I'm a good player, I could beat almost anyone with this team.

You know why?

Because Smogon-'mons, the pokemon at the top of OU are there for a reason: they're good. I use the best available to me, and I win as a result.

If you pitted two people of equal ability, one person using the Smogon team I mentioned earlier, and one using a UU team, or a RU team, or a NU team, or a Showderp team, who would win? The person using the Smogon team, of course, because they have the better team.

Now, I've actually champed in Showderp myself, and l've had the opportunity to beat people with Smogon-esque teams. Do you know why I was able to do that? Not because the bond between me and my pokemon was able to eliminate the advantages my opponents had in their BSTs, moves, and typings, no. I was able to win because the people I played against with the OU teams were retarded. They used Mixed, Rain Dance Scizor with a Life Orb (not an exaggeration), they used non-STAB Solar Beam under normal weather, they tried repeatedly to burn my fire type. In the circumstances where the opponent uses a good team, and is competent, Showderp champs, myself included, will almost always lose.

I'm not saying that you should never use shitmons or favorites, but to each his own no? And what if an OU pokemon is a favorite of yours? How is this any different then the mentality of OU competetive play elitists that frown upon anyone that uses lower tiered Pokemon or stuff that doesn't work?

Also, what if I pinkie promised you that I didn't copy-paste it. I performed weeks of rigorous analysis on all the members of my teams, and determined they were the best. I then spent months studying the best movesets for them.

Now, I didn't copy paste, but chances are, most of my team will look quite a bit like a "Smogon copy-paste team," because the sets Smogon offers are generally quite good.

If a few of your team's Pokemon (which coincidentally happen to be your favourite) are OU, then so be it. This is why 0 is not the average in this scale. If all of your favourites are OU then that's either a very big coincidence or you were the kid at school who ran teams of all legendaries or all dragons.

I either sweep or get #rekt in a few turns. Whether I win or lose only depends on my opponents skill/team. It's tough, but using OU: The Team is way less fun.

Let's use competitive Smash Bros. Brawl as a metaphor. Say Ganondorf is my favorite character, and I love to play with him. The amount of bulky water and dragon teams I've made ragequit with dat bulk + toxic is incredible. If you're so secure with your showdown skills, then use a 'harder' team to make it more challenging for yourself. At least you'll continue to improve that way.

If you use the worse characters you have to play harder to win, causing you to get better faster. If you just spam Fox/Rotom-W, Scizor and MKhan every single match you play, you're not getting any better. Even worse in a game like pokemon where no reflexes are required, which means if you solely rely on a team somebody else came up with to win, the victory may as well be theirs too.

In UU (last gen), almost all teams carried at least one of Heracross/Roserade/Chandelure, and if you've ever played Gen 5 NU, you can attest that seemingly every team has a Jynx, a Scolipede, and probably a Golurk.

People use the best pokemon available to them. Obviously, Moxiemence wasn't available in NU last gen, but Jynx sure was, and as a result, every decent team had a jynx.

I would agree with you if there weren't standardised move-sets that everybody used, stagnating the metagame somewhat. Fair enough if you want to win, but at least switch it up enough with different tiers or movesets so the win feels like it's actually yours.

Define "get better."

My ladder ranking "gets better" when I use an OU team.

As for "skill," I don't really think that playing with shitty mons helps you get better. If I play a Brawl tournament with Ganon and lose, the fact that I "got better" doesn't really matter, does it?

And anyways, from my experience, the best way to "get better" is to play Random battles on Showdown.

You have to play harder to win/use a larger variety of tactics to win with a weaker team. You have to outpredict your opponent, have team synergy and clever tactics while your opponent could just spam outrage and legendaries. It makes you work harder, which makes the wins feel better and you get better because you learn more of the metagame, rather than just what the top half of OU's counters and standard sets are.

Return/Sucker Punch (or Crunch, but let's debate that later)/PUP/a coverage move (EQ and Fire Punch are good choices) is probably the best set you can run on M-Kanga. (I actually know of one that might be better, but it was pioneered by a Smogonite too, so it's just as "bad.") Why am I bad for using the best moves available to me on Mega-Kanga. PUP gives me a Swords dance and a Brick break in one move, Return is a 153 BP STAB move that hits everything sans rock, steel, and ghost types for neutral damage.

Those are pretty clearly the best options, so why should I be demonized for using the best options just because a Smogonite used them too?

Similarly, if the kid at school used overpowered Pokemon and you lost knowing full well that you were at a massive disadvantage, then why would it bother you that you lost?

You are essentially playing in their terms, meaning you know full well what to expect and yet you still complain about it. You think that if you lose it doesn't count because you weren't giving it your all using a shitty team, and that if they lose that you win because you beat them with a team of Pokemon that don't even belong in the tier. Its kind of selfish honestly, its a lose-lose situation for your competitor.

Alright give me a moveset for Volcarona that isn't just Quiver Dance, two STABs and filler, or Choice because that's on Smogon too.

You literally can't because stuff like that, Lilligant, Escavalier, they can barely fill a moveset most of the time.

In a FPS, the person who throws themselves into the thick of it gets better at the game a lot faster than someone who camps at the back every match. After a while, the camper may have a much better k/d, but they would lose to the player who took risks and played aggressively because they probably would have learnt more about reflexes, a variety of weapons, map movement, bullet evasion etc.

I also play random battles on showdown. When I throw 2 or 3 pokemon on my team that I came up with myself to see if they work and they do well, I feel a hell of a lot better than when I just play with OU the team. A truly good player can use OU the team or a team of RUs and NUs and still win, so why use the one that everyone else has?

This is false. If you're playing someone of equal skill, it'll be almost impossible for you to beat OU with a team of NU unless you were heavily counter teaming, even then most OU offensive threats can power through anything in NU.

I don't care how good you are: when a good player with an OU team plays against an equally good player with a RU/NU team, the OU player will win almost without exception. If the NU-user is playing against someone at around 800 on the ladder, then they have a good shot at winning. But the NU-user will almost never win against a good OU-user.

FPS is a bad example, both of those players are playing an FPS but they aren't playing the same "game." If you switched their roles they would be equally as bad, as they both learned different parts of the game. Absol and Rotom-W have Smogon sets, also I guess mixed all-out attacking Spookysword is one too (it's on their analysis). So that makes what, -6? -7? At least it's not a -10.
