Well going by Gen 5 MM multiplies shiny chance by 6, hordes come in 5, but you can probably encounter hordes faster than each egg you hatch and don't have any downtime from going to pc/anything. Probably. But that's assuming MM still only multiplies shiny chance by 6, could be more this gen.

Time it takes varies, I've done it five times, number of eggs each were 4, 75, 137, 267, 898

So I just wanna make sure I'm making the IVs correct when breeding; Destiny Knot passes 5 random IVs from the pokemon holding it, right? so if there's a 4 IV pokemon holding it, it will have minimum 3 perfect IVs?

No on both things.

Destiny Knot makes it so that it's 5 from both parents; it doesn't matter what parent is holding it.
Males can only pass HA with a Ditto. If it's a regular female, there's no chance.

That's not quite right, the destiny knot passes down five IVs from either parents, not just the one holding it. And as far as I know Male HA with Female no HA is 0% HA. The female has to have it to pass it down 60% of the time, or the male can have it to pass it down 20% of the time but only with a ditto mother.

Got really lucky the other day, took a break from hatching Pawniard eggs (20+ boxes and still nothing) and popped into the Safari Zone looking for a shiny Spiritomb, got one within about half an hour.
Extremely lucky considering with my Syncher I could've ended up with an Adamant Lampent. Fuck mixed Safaris like that.

Is it more efficient to save the game before taking an egg from the day care man, hatch the five/six eggs, and if none of them are shinies to restart the game and gather up the eggs again?

I don't know when SV's are calculated, when the daycare man turns around or when you receive the egg from him, but if the former I'm assuming you could just decline the egg and then bike a bit to get another egg quickly.

not really...it basically is puting 2 magikarps, rejecting the first egg, save, wait till you get another egg, hatch it, check it's IVs, reset, take out magikarps, put the breeding couple you want (now that you know from which parent will the offspring inherit their IVs), get the egg, rinse and repeat.

So I just got a 5 IV Japanese Litwick off of GTS for a random Rhyhorn.

This will make Pumpkaboo hunting nicer.

Thought I was doing small, but I found out I was doing regular. Had a small, but it was in a Quick ball, so I just wrangled up a new small in a Luxury ball, I'm getting the right nature bred onto a female baby now, and then I'll be putting her with the Litwick and switching out as needed with IVs.

So going for tiniest pumpkin. Might go for huge if I get bored later or I come across one though.

Just hoping this hunt is more forgiving than Nidoran. I lost count after the 60th box and finally gave up a bit before X and Y came out. First Masuda of the game.

Not sure about the odds, but you can catch a few with False Swipe until you get a Scrappy one. I've gotten Anticipation Eevees and Imposter Dittos fairly easily, even when my friends aren't online.

I had some bullshit earlier this week. I hatch eggs five boxes at a time, and I had THREE shiny Mawile in a single batch.

Anyways, I'm at 8/42 in my quest to get a shiny of every steel mon.
Kinda ticked that two of those Mawile could have been something else, but the last one had good IV's and was female, so I can't complain too much.

I was having some amazing luck with shinies as well, but I think it's finally run out. In one week, I hatched a 5IV shiny timid protean ninja frog, a 5IV shiny timid Ninetails, and a 4 IV shiny Jolly Gyardados. It was so incredibly nice, and they all hatched within a box and a half total. Then...Larvitar broke me. Mad respect for you people who keep going after box 40.
