>>17409390> No day/night cycleVery minor, it's 90% aesthetic difference, 10% a mechanic that was used in a specific area in the game rather than throughout.
> Inability to trade with previous generations, having to buy FR/LG and some of the console games to even consider finishing your dex ( or just cheat)Not a fault of the gen, but rather because GBA and GBC/GB were incompatible. Not to mention that them not being transferrable was a GOOD thing, as it let them refine the coding system to properly implement the new features instead of the shitty system that relied entirely on IVs.
> IV overhaul making things worseThe only thing they changed to IVs was removing things about pokemon that were tied to it (Formes, Gender, Shininess); all of which was for the better. Not to mention they got rid of the shitty 'you can't breed pokemon with similar IVs' crap.
If you meant EVs, that was for the better.
>Smaller than gen 2, majority of R/S/Es map being water1. Johto is smaller than Hoenn
2. Kanto, the thing that makes it 'bigger' is a barren wasteland, and an effective waste of space.
3. Only a third of Hoenn's game is actually spent in the water at most.
> Took away the moving sprites until emerald, and even then most were half assed, easily laziest gen for pokemon sprites. The increase in sprite quality more than makes up for the lack of movement.
Basically, everything you listed was a GOOD THING or minor. I will agree that it wasn't perfect, though.
