Becoming /Dark isn't all bad for him. For one, if you set him up correctly, which is relatively easy, all you really need to fear is Vacuum Wave and Mach Punch. For two, it gives him a very desirable resistance to Ghost and Dark. With all the Sucker Punch in the metagame, Dark resistance is better than it sounds.

You have different weakneess on him, you can fool the opponent by not megavolving and taking a bet on him using a fighting attack

I'm more mad the prospect of wanting a Scrafty Mega Evolution that becomes Dragon/Fighting, only to realize that he still takes 4x damage to Fairy.

Really? The Poke was in NU because its 4X weakness to fighting and ground meant it was taking up space. Even with its legendaary base stats, new ability and typing, it still sucks in comparison to everything else. It has no recovery. any fast special attacker and kill it and it wastes a mega evolution slot that could be used for something better. Mega Aggron is low UU at best.

I just noticed that none of the current Pokémon that can Megaevolve, are ones that reach their final state through Stone Evolution.

Gyarados and Arcanine are almost equally popular, and Gallade is pretty popular in Japan too, but only Gyarados and Gardevoir get the Megaevo, they get their forms just by level up. Arcanine and Gallade get to their forms by Evolution Stones. Maybe its something, dunno.

I'm more confused as to why only Blaziken of the gen 3 starters got a mega. Let's just ignore the fact that Blaziken was already ridiculously strong for a moment, and didn't really need a mega evo, but it solely got a mega evo while Sceptile and Swampert don't even get a mention.

It's really based on popularity.

Just looking at them, something like half got a mega based on how much people used them (because they were so powerful) and then things like Gardevoir, Absol and Mawile got them because they had a fanbase.

going mega is essentially entering the field as far as the game is concerned. tyranitar and abomasnow can reset their weathers when they go mega, and charizard's drought activates right as he goes mega too. mega porygon Z would follow suit with the "upon entering" thing, and be able to switch in and out to set it again later in the battle if needed.
