Seriously, why do we keep rooting for him after all these years? He never learns. He never goes for the multitude of bitches. He never actually wins a tournament that would matter. He and Pikachu keep getting beaten by relative newbies even though they should be extremely powerful by now, one of the most extremes of the Worf Effect we've ever seen.

Its like every time I want to hate him, something happens which shows he has a brain. Why can't they just let me hate him completely?

tl;dr, we shouldn't have to cheer for a protagonist because he's the underdog when he's an idiot and should be way over by now.
