Why does everyone hate grass type?

Yeah, they can't take the heat, and sometimes ice just bugs them out. But they do really deserve this much hatred?

I think a lot of them are viable and I often have one of them taking a spot on my team. Having more than one grass type on a team or monotyping it is just out of the question, though.

Grass is a nice type, but insanely one dimensional. The only unique thing it can do is Leech Seed or Spore.
Also it's shit offensively.
I wish it would get some more options/buffs because I really like a few grass types but don't want to use them because they are dead weight

I almost never use grass types, at least not pure grass types. Being weak to fire, flying, bug, ice and poison doesn't really help them early game, which is usually when I decide my team.

aside from that I don't like most of their looks, apart from Paras/Parasect, Shiftry and perhaps a few others.

Grass type sucks because the most used attacks happen to be all strong to grass.

It's not an inherent balance problem with grass type, just the overpowered moves are unfortunate

>U-turn
>brave bird
>flamethrower / heat wave / flare blitz / fire blast
>ice beam / ice shard / icicle spear

The solution is simply to make grass-resistant moves strong, so that grass types will have more chances at eating things up.

They would be more viable if Talonflame didn't exist. Even if you get a free turn for setting up (Quiver Dance for Liligant, Sunny Day for Chlorophyll), if you can't put Smogonbird to sleep on the switch-in, it forces you out.

Also doesn't help that most Water-types have access to Ice Beam and random shit gets things like U-Turn.

Chesnaught is used a lot in VGC, it's "priority: the meta", and you have a goddamn physical wall that resist EdgeQuake plus Discharge and Muddy Water that shutdown most priority user, and yes, that include Prankster users.

Leech seed needs to turn into a field effect that doesn't get removed on switch-out, or implement a new move that is a field effect and acts like leech seed, and you can stack it up with leech seed.

Also, give a grass move the ability to remove hazards, like vine whip or petal dance.

Then maybe grass types have a reason to exist, maybe.

Sorry m8, that would be overpowered. Leech Seed is a great move as it is. Make it go through subs/protect, or give it negative priority so that it gets stuck to the switch-in if the opponent uses u-turn, but anything more would break it.

Giving Grass-types a Rock or Ground move with good distribution would help a lot already. It needn't even be strong; 60–80 BP would be plenty to threaten or OHKO Smogonbird, Charizard, or Heatran if they switch in.

The Pokémon creates a soft and inviting nest which Flying-types cannot resist to roost in. Flying types lose their immunity to Ground moves as long as this hazard is on the field.

Made them irrelevant because B2/W2 gave pebbles to fucking everyone and they banish anything that was weak to rock.

SR was one of the biggest mistakes GF has made for competitive play if you ask me, right alongside making it a tutor move so that now anyone who skipped B2/W2 would be forced to gen to be competitive.

from what I recall, grass types used to be the trickster/cleric type with hp drain, had status recovery and doled out 3 types of status to make up for its relatively poor type matchups.

then they started handing out those roles to other types, or gave access to a number of key moves to non-grass (and non-bug) types, which ultimately gives players little to no reason to use them for the most part.

I genuinely feel bad for grass types.
They have the best designs and are great for support, but that's about it.
They have too many weaknesses, and anything they CAN do another type can do better (with the exception of wiping out all ground/rock and ground/water types, without sap sipper).
bug is still the most useless type ever

I can't figure out what to put in the 4th spot. I am leaning towards Bulk Up so that it can tank physical hit, but I don't know. Pain Split looks appealing too

Literally no other Grass starter is so uninspired.

Meanwhile Chesnaught incorporates both its plant and animal themes much more cleverly and produces a much more aesthetic result to boot.

Since most normal types can learn fighting and dark type moves, normal types can sweep really well.

Grass is a supporting type, Ice is an offensive type but GF is retarded and makes slow bulky Ice types, Weavile, Mamoswine, and the Kyurem forms are good examples of what Ice types should be.

Bug just doesn't get anything.

Eh, Vapor does something kind of neat with its mermaid theme rather than just "wet cat", Esp has the two-tailed cat thing going on. But it's true that the eon line are typically hugely uninspired.
