Fan Club is quite possibly the best Supporter of this new set. Step away, Lysandre you're just a non-nerfed Supporter version of Pokemon Catcher anyways.

Even as a Supporter, Fan Club is going to make drawing into basics a lot easier. Imagine how much quicker it'll make Deluge and VirGen decks, which are already rather fast. I think it'd be a waste in Plasma, which draws faster through Items than Supporters. You know?

The only "problem" I see for the new Fan Club is that it doesn't put the Pokemon directly into play like the old one, which would hurt the card IFF Pokemon Card Lab went full retard and make another Pokemon with an Ability that would put damage counters on Basic Pokemon when you play them from hand

All the previous cards that have a current version will be errata'd to the current print automatically, so your Base Set Potions will heal 30 damage

Depends.

If you're playing modified or unlimited, it follows the errata of the most current printing.

If you're playing in an old format (say replicating the 2004 format), then you use what was the most current printing in that format.

Also note that if you are playing with old copies of an errata'd card, you need to have on hand and easily accessible an errata'd copy for your opp to read.

Lysandre is good and ever so tempting to play, but it definitely has nothing on Fan Club. I'm basically guaranteed to start with Fennekin/Tepig/Rayquaza, playing that card on the first turn (provided I have a Beach to put down straight away) gets me the other two to have all 3 in play T1.

If you're playing an old card, take a new version of the same card outside of your deck to use as a reference card just in case. You can never be too careful!

Well, those type "damage inducing cards when Pokemon is played from hand" existed before (Absol Prime, Misama Valley, and among others). Fan Club is still a good card no matter what, but I feel that changing the text for it seems to be rather pointless and a shameless cash grab since you can't really use the old ones

I really like the fact that such a card will exist but I'm having my doubts about how good/playable it will be. When we rotated to HS-on and lost almost all forms of drawpower via Poké-Powers (especially after NXD's release when Magnezone Prime lost its relevance), most decks, if not all, dropped Pokémon Collector in favor of Dual Ball and more Juniper/N/PONT/Sage's Training. During the Rosanne/Bebe/Collector days, you could get more cards out of them by searching for Claydol, Uxie, etc. Right now you can't afford to miss a supporter early game, there will be times when playing Pokémon Fan Club will mean missing your T1 energy, missing your T1 Tropical Beach, etc. Just look at Skyla, how many times have you searched for a Juniper with her just because you wished you had a Juniper at that point? Also, between this and Skyla, you're wasting too many slots on supporters that can't draw cards, would you want that?

It really isn't. It's by far the best site to buy sealed shit from, especially if you're going for pre-orders. Best prices and amazingly fast delivery, I'm from Europe and it has never taken more than 2 weeks to receive my order. The only negative is that they're pretty small compared to TnT or Collector's Cache so their stock is kind of limited. But if they have it, support them and buy from them, they're worth it.

Not to sound rude NM2 but I have no idea what most old cards did so I have no idea what a lot of what you said meant. I know Collector, PONT and Dual Ball, and I only know Claydol through research from it being only like the best support card ever printed.
But you are entirely right about Skyla-ing for a Juniper, etc. Too often has that happened and it's why I'll never play more than 2 Skyla anymore, and I would probably go 1-1 with Fan Club and Skyla. It is bloody annoying having a Skyla and only 1 other unplayable card in hand.

I'll help you out here (as well as list the rest for everyone else who may need it):
-Magnezone Prime: ability that's basically bianca.
-Dual Ball: Double Pokeball
-Professor Juniper: Discard hand, Draw 7
-N: Both players shuffle hands into deck, draw cards equal to their current prizes
-Professor Oak's New Theory: Shuffle hand into deck, draw 6 cards
-Sage's Training: Look at top 5, add 2 to hand, send rest to grave
-Roseanne's Research: Search deck for a combo of 2 of Basic Energy/Basic pokemon and add to hand
-Bebe's Search: return 1 card from hand to deck to add any card from deck to hand.
-Pokemon Collector: add 3 basics from deck to hand.
-Claydol (Great Encounters 15): Ability lets you return up to 2 cards from hand to bottom of deck then draw till you have 6 cards in hand.
-Uxie (Legends Awaken 43): When it's put on bench, draw cards till you have 7 in hand.
-Tropical Beach: Lets the turn player end their turn to draw to 6 cards in hand.
-Skyla: Lets you search out any trainer.

Basically in DPPt format Uxie/Claydol let you keep on recharging your hand and thin your deck, allowing your supporters to be burned on raw search power.

Also right. I haven't played with all of these cards enough, but the general premise behind them is that most of these guys do your Hand recharge effects for you so you don't have to burn your supporter on hand recharging.

I started playing after DPPt and the only one I really played had Relicanth as its draw engine and setup, so Uxie/Claydol wasn't something I had much bother with.

As brilliant as this sounds to get off double-poison, the way the game works it doesn't synergize with itself. You do the damage before the effect, so the attack would switch, deal 50, then poison, so Muk hasn't dealt damage to a poisoned Pokémon with the first attack it deals.
It would be more balanced if you took the poison effect off of the attack, and forced you to play it with Lasers.

I know the first poisoning doesn't get boosted by it, that's why I worded it like that, so it has a way to get poison onto the pokemon at all without HTL.

The idea behind the attack is to let you drag something out, then be able to stack instances of poison. If the first instance isn't there then muk initiates it.

Of course muk would probably kill most things with damage before the poison actually killed them (though I did the math, 2 turns of Toxic drag would result in 160 damage over 2 turns without any boosting effects outside of muk himself. this means that a muscle band would let it 2hko as you enter your turn if played right). That said, you could probably reduce the damage he deals, as it's only there to boost poison counts and get some tempo in.

However, muk is a bit above a safe power curve in that he aggregates poison while dealing solid damage and acting as a catcher while not being on a weak body, like carnivine. In this sense, this Muk is probably too strong.

Another way to do it is just:

Toxic Body - Whenever a poisoned pokemon would deal damage to Muk, halve that damage (after weakness and resistance), then flip a coin. If heads, the opposing pokemon takes damage equal to the total damage prevented.

I just ordered a set of Greninja to build Cowfrog once Flashfire hits. It should be a fun league deck. I hope TPCi doesn't make Miltank a rare, but since it's a non-evolving uncommon, that seems very likely. Oh well, it will probably be a dollar rare anyway.

PTCGO is good if you have huge amounts of useless code cards which you have sitting around. If you want to take the time and activate them all, you might get a few good things. Other than that, you have to farm Trainer Tokens (and I can help) and buy 5 card packs from the online store.

So far as I've seen, the battling mechanisms check out a-OK. The annoying part is getting the cards themselves.

2 Red with Black and white hexagons (I assume pre-NV)
6 Purple with purple hexagons (Assuming NXD or DEX)
6 Aqua with lime green hexagons (Assuming Boundaries Crossed)

Diggersby XY 112/146, for the cost of two colorless energy, can put two item cards from your discard pile back into your hand. Sure, not nearly as easy as Sableye, but it does the same thing. I'm a little bit hyped, honestly. Discussion if you want?

That said, I feel like we need pokemon card draw engines again that are on basics/stage 1s, and a shift back to supporters being searchers.

I ask,why do people complain about prices sometimes, but that same person has no problem buying it on ebay for a lot more, as if it came directly from a special place.
Example. Man want's to buy Entei/Raikou Legend bottom card from my store, and I have it mint for 2$, and then rants and screams for the price of it.
Had an experience selling a card to a person who complain at the store about the price, of full art N trainer card, and then he went online and bought it from me. Dude has the same nickname written all over binders, and he has the same written on ebay account.

That said, a smart player should always be checking online to have an idea of what they should be spending on cards. It's especially bad for ygo in franks, wherein I'll see people trying to sell stuff at much higher prices than what are actually the value online (like 6 dollar dragged down commons, when you can get them for 2.50 from most sites), simply for the sake of expedience and people not bothering to check.

Also, Vendors tend to buy back cards at a much smaller value than what they sell them for (which makes sense), but that adds to the view of being 'jewey'. I say this as someone who assists in vendor-style 'gypping' practices for my group's mobile yugioh vending.

A lot of vendors are known for horrendous mark up and can be very one-sided with trades. I think a lot of the time people go in to see vendors, especially at events, and expect the prices to be higher than they should be and so whatever price they see makes them think the vendor is getting away with highway robbery. That being said, ebay feels a little more competitive to people, and usually is the afterthought after you've burned through to options of stores since you're not instantly getting the card and it can be a gamble. The good thing about ebay is that the seller's reputation is out in the open for people to see, so you're less likely to be screwed over and can feel like you know you're going to get good service.

I still wish I had bought up all of the Black Kyurems at one of the events I went to last year. Vendor was selling Black Ballista for $4 apiece and called them worthless and inferior to White Kyurem. I didn't even think it was bad back then.

Exactly, with pokecoms being a trainer, that would mean lower 'cost' ultra balls with search trainer focus.

That said, Evosoda is basically as ded as drawing an evolution or a level/heavy ball in opener already with the basics. It's basically there as more pokeballs that let you grab the parts you'll more likely need in later turns (that being evolutions), and feels less conditional than rare candies since with rare candy jump into t2 klinklang wasn't running too well, even with 3-1-3 line and 4 rare candies. Basically, it's level ball 3-4 (or 4-5, I forget which) and heavy ball 4-5.

And I really like the 2/2/2 line after testing, it feels the most consistent without clogging.

But yeh, Evosoda is just for more consistency in getting those evolutions down, since it's just functionally a ball that just searches evolutions anyways.

The problem here is that you won't always have 3 or 4 Greninja. However, you will almost always have 2. Adding Bangle or Laserbank would allow you to still OHKO 170 HP Pokémon with 2 and would let you defeat 180 HP targets with just 3 Greninja instead of 4.

Don't need 3 Level at all, nor 4 SER considering you'll probably be dropping 2 Water a turn maximum. 3 Letter is also just silly. Bangle over LaserBank because space, and over Band because this way you can drop 2 water against any 170HP EX or 140HP non-EX and OHKO. Band brings you just short of 170.
Also for consistency's sake,

If you're dropping Water energies anyway, you know you can get them back. Not playing 4 Sycamore is dumb.

It's more that N grants diminishing returns as the game goes on. with 3, you're fairly certain to draw it early when you need it, and feasibly have it lategame when you need it to disrupt an opponent's hand. Colress has the eh early game which hurts his usefulness at more than 2. And that said, the non-maxxing of sycamore is just something I hold to decks of this type that need certain card combos as having to pitch part of your hand when it has combo pieces can hurt long term stability. That's why I cut into skyla/n from the original list to get in the shaunas. Sure, the shaunas aren't as potent as colress lategame, or as potent earlygame as N, but they sit well in situations where using either N or Colress wouldn't help that much.

There's two ways to get what you want:

-trade around like crazy
-try to rip someone off with really miserly offers or offers intended to trick the other person.

Earlier today I saw one for 2 yveltal ex promos, and it was cobalion+1 other card. The first cobalion was just NVI, but then the extra 1 card is VIRIZION EX.

Other ways people try to rip is basically the miserly offer, wherein you put a low number of packs you give, and an EX on your receiving end, and hope someone doesn't pay attention thinking they're getting a deal on a really low cost EX.

The rule is that if it's something used in any deck in format, it will probably cost you 1 pack each.

Except for holos/full arts, holos should be equal to about 2-3 of their regular variant and full arts should be roughly 1.5-2 times their standardized value.

Currently the most expensive card should be Virizion EX and it should be settled around 6 packs for regular, 10-12 for Full Art.

It's a special edition box. Each box contains 100 cards:
-45 Commons
-30 Uncommons
-15 Rares
-10 Ultra Rares (2-3 of which are Full Arts)

The card pool for this box is dependent on the year printed, and the full set is all cards printed in that year.

Every card is a card from that period, written with the errata it had in the print of it that came out that year. They would all have the XY bordering, as to maintain the value of the original collector's items.

Each box would cost 20-30 dollars.

Because that said, there isn't much reason to open up these if you aren't guaranteed that much good stuff with a non-supported unlimited format and less of a collector's standpoint when they don't look like the originals to fill in those slots. (That said guaranteed FAs/some other UR variant consisting only of cards that were in competitive decks to ensure that those have higher pull rates should be a given)

They probably wouldn't be worth much even if they're playable though. I mean, about the only market for them would be the people who need a playset and don't want to shell out $80-120 for the sets, in which case you're still not going to make much and I'm sure even the regular prints will be cheaper/deflated in price.

What I'd like to see is another draft set. As stupid as Legendary Collection was, making the Pokemon in the pack the same type was brilliant, and even if they only brought it back for reprint sets, it'd be great.

When catcher was reprinted in Plasma Blast and put in the theme decks the price fell from $10-$15 to $2-3, even for the original EPO print. It happened because the card was now gotten in a more accessible way so the value tanked. Tins did the same thing.

The only thing that would keep the prices from falling dramatically would be alternate art (hence why full arts are still pretty pricy for things like Darkrai and Keldeo). Collectors see the difference in getting a BCR Keldeo and a LTR Keldeo will matter, but the price difference would be negligible.

Actually, I just looked up both Keldeos and the BCR one is $8.80 while the LTR one is $8, so really not all that different.

Ah, right. that's my fault for confusing ADV EXs with ADV Shining (I had known about the EX limitation and nonbasic limitation, but had forgotten that shinings are always basics mostly because the only shinings I really cared about were rayquaza and Latias)

Not that it'd be a retroactive thing that would go back to old sets.

Besides which, the difference in power between most Gen III cards and the current cards would mean you'd be most likely outsped and damaged heavier than what you could set up against them, unless you had a deck that took control of the gamestate and blocked abilities or something.

Every year, a certain number of sets become illegal for use in competitive play. Gen III cards are long gone. You can only use old cards if they have been reprinted in the legal sets, but those cards usually easy to find (Potion, Switch, Energy Search, etc).

The idea is that they take the roughly 500 card pools of yearly releases and give a modern release, under the same premise as EX Battle Boost was made to help set up for the BW on format.

Eventually it would have to catch up with our current stuff, but it's just getting the history back in the game for people who could want to play it but wouldn't be able to afford the collector's items.

I'm just not sure they see the unlimited market as really being there right now. Maybe if they actually supported it a bit and got some feedback they might do it, but then again the cards are already printed and usable in unlimited and they probably don't see the point of spending time reprinting old sets to a niche market.

Plus, knowing them, they'll leave out the cards people really want reprinted like useful trainers or Rayquaza Star in favor of the Starter Stars and Pokeball or something.

After all, they made EBB without an EX representative from Dragons Exalted and basically fucked over Rayquaza seeing another year with its peers. I wouldn't have much confidence in their yearly picks being good.

I'd also foresee a lot of popular (but mostly useless) Pokemon sneaking in like Charizard ex and the like.

Also I'm certain they would not leave out those cards. Those packs are long out of print, so there's no monetary benefit to leaving them out.

Rayquaza didn't see the reprint along with a lot of other cards because Dragon's Exalted was still in print, and that would drag away from sales of that.

That said, I would expect them to put in chaff as filler, but that still good if supporting old formats if only to give variance. Something like the box I was presenting in EX era would probably be sitting on 20-30 exs in it's pool of possible pulls, so you'd be buying multiple boxes anyways.

(Basically it would be like a giant booster pack with bulk value and slightly better spread on its cards and maybe or maybe not having RHs)

Alright guys I'm trying this again during the day: I have not bought a pokémon card since I was a kid and Rocket set was new, but nostalgia is hitting me hard and I want to buy some new pokémon cards.

I don't even know what is out there right now, starter decks are still a thing, right? Are any of them worth buying to get back into the game? Should I get some boosters to supplement a starter deck?

It's called power creep. 50HP is just too low, 70 is standard for a Basic that will evolve, 90-110 for something that won't, and up to 150 for a Stage 2. Anything above that is just a bit too much, but there are ways around it in this format.
PCL writes out the format in advance - hell, they probably know what will be in our sets in 6 months time already, and they know what cards are good and what's shit. They knew Darkrai, Mewtwo, Yveltal, Blastoise, Keldeo... all these cards would be crazy overused. They write it how they want it to go and there are counters to it all.
>TL;DR if there's big HP it's cool just do big damage who cares, certainly not PCL or TPCi

Generally in shops availability is shit, but I don't know a single person that hasn't bought stuff online.
No-one at league buys their booster boxes in store as they sell them for £113 (about $190) whereas online is so much cheaper. I don't blame them. I'll suggest to buy one-off boosters, tins, sleeves, etc though.

They actually tried to fix it early on, by Fossil. Only thing worth using out of fossil even if you're just playing with the first three sets is Magmar, and Dragonite is the bulkiest pokemon of the set, everything else has 60-80 HP at max. And a lot of people claim that a signature part of Dark Pokemon was having low HP, but they never really mention that Vending Machine cards (released around the same time Team Rocket-the Gym Sets were getting released in Japan) have the same oddly low HP compared to Pokemon from Base/Jungle.

They've just let it go out of control for too long and right now bulky EX's pretty much control the metagame.

There aren't any decks that contain useful Pokémon for Plasma decks. You could get the Volcarona one which comes with 2 Juniper and an Ultra Ball if you don't have playsets of them already as well as a Blastoise and a Suicune which are generally useful cards. Otherwise, save your tokens and get Legendary Treasures packs, the set is full of EX's so you're bound to get something good, even if it's not for Plasma.

If you're building Plasma, look for the Deoxys, Thundurus and Lugia tin codes instead of simply Plasma Freeze ones.

I don't run any Ultra Ball at all. Plasma Ball is by far the better option in my opinion because its faster and you aren't forced to discard if you have a great hand. Usually you run enough Pokemon to see them by draw, but Plasma Ball speeds it up a whole lot.

Depends on the situation. In the first couple of turns, you want to put energy in the discard pile so that Thundurus can attach them to Pokémon. Decks based on Lugia usually run 2 Ultra and 1-2 Plasma Ball, decks based on Kyurem run 2-3 Plasma and 1 Ultra.

Proxy the 4 2006 Worlds decks and maybe a 2006 MetaNite too. It's probably the most enjoyable format to play.

So I like to think of interesting new cards when I'm bored. They could be shit, broken or ridiculous but I'll post them here for discussion.

I don't play much, but after seeing the expansions so far in the X/Y series, it seems there's going to be a meta heavy with mono-type decks soon coming. To force people to tech other options too, you could introduce several variations of a tool card, where [X] is a type:

[X] shield - Trainer (Tool)
prevents all effects of an attack, including damage done to this pokemon by an opposing active pokemon of type [X].

This would hopefully stop one deck from getting too powerful/big in the meta, as everyone can tech against its main attacker, and people running that deck would have to run tech attackers of other types (or whatever the current tool scrapper is). Point is, people would start looking for other options.

speaking of tool scrapper/updates of aforementioned card, I was thinking it would be pretty versatile but still balanced if it was now:

Tool Scrapper - Trainer (Item)
Choose one of the following effects, use that effect, then discard this card:
"Discard a tool card attached to one of your opponents Pokemon" or "Flip a coin, if heads, discard all tool cards attached to all of your opponents Pokemon".

This card would act as a more versatile version of tool scrapper, combining its effect onto one card with that megaphone cards effect, but only allowing the use of one of them. I like the idea of choice and versatility in a deck, it creates more unpredictability, even if your opponent knows every card in your deck.

Alternatively, could just make it a supporter. Harder to search, more of a sacrifice relatively speaking to play, etc.

Your principle of 'versiatility' here is kind of messed up, as really tools aren't dumped onto the field as you would expect and tacking a coin flip effect onto surprise megaphone really just messes that up. Not every card needs to be 'versatile' in that fashion; if you want to create versatile cards, you need to make them do different things, not the same thing, but one does it better with a risk of failing.

Mega ring is definitely something we need to make megas more viable, but I don't think we still have a mega wherein taking up the ace spec slot would be worth it for speeding it up slightly.

Surprise Megaphone - Trainer (Item)
Flip a coin. If heads, discard all tool cards attached to your opponent's pokemon. If tails, discard a tool card attached to one of your opponent's pokemon.

It creates the kind of 'versatility' that you're looking for, without just making a card you'd almost never use the second effect of anyways.

That does sound better. I still like the idea of choices rather than coin flips. With more control, it'd be less like a random effect and more like a swiss army knife, use the tool that best suits your situation. Just maybe not for this card - maybe on something like Plus Power. That's always seemed like a waste of time to me. It should be what muscle band is, but with the option to discard on the turn played to do an additional 50 damage or something.

Yeh, stuff like that. If you want to make versatility, then you want your modes to seem equally viable, but distinct in some fashion.

This is either done by allowing for choices in what it does, like Roseanne's Resarch (which can search any combo of basic pokemon/basic energy), or like this muscle band-like card you have here, which does damage over time, or gives one large burst.

That said, if one mode is clearly more powerful than the other, don't try to make both equal by making the stronger coin flip, just have a flip determine which you should use (but limit this to smaller cards)

Or you can do things like what energy recycle system did, wherein if you only chose one energy, it went to your hand, but if you chose 2-3, they were shuffled into your deck.

Nah, the TCG's Mega-Evolution is actually overbalanced, since it has all the negatives of evolution plus ending your turn when played. Maybe if it prevented your pokemon from attacking it would be less bad.

Think of it like ex's used to be. A pokemon-ex had to be REALLY special to be played because the rules were really fucking harsh on them (2 prize rule on them while often being stage 2s and so on), EX's were devised as a more "viable" ex, I feel megas might get the same treatment.

Have a problem /tcgg/. Whenever I try to go into playtesting or friend battle the game refuses to load past displaying the board and player names/avatars (for playtesting) or the board (for friend battle, the players get called Player one name and player name two or something). Does anyone know what could cause this bug and if so, what could fix it? Thanks in advance.

I don't mind having a cool holofoil Pokemon Catcher or other things. I can see the allure of full-arts and holos because of how difficult they are to get, but I never really got into them (mostly because I don't have the money to buy full-art Lugias and Deoxys's). If you're talking about Gourgeist XY 57, then I guess it could be good with Spirit Scream+Hypnotoxic, which is an instant KO on any Pokemon in the format. Just getting it actually set up takes a little while. Are you thinking of making a deck based on it or are you thinking of teching it into a metadeck?

Consider Kyurem PLF as well if you're going for spread damage because sniping the bench for 30 is a great way to get things moving in the deck. Darkrai EX is also an all-around good card, especially because he too hits the bench for 30. Trevenant XY's main attack spreads 100 damage across the board, so look into him too. Plus he's got a strong ability.
