No matter how you look at it, Nintendo is in a hole right now. They have all the tools coming to get them out (MK, SSB, new Zelda), but the fact remains that as of right now, they're still in the hole.
Sony and to a slightly lesser extent Microsoft have had the luxury of starting out on solid footing, but unfortunately for the both of them (more Sony than Microsoft, as Halo will probably keep them afloat) they are slowly losing that footing and could wind up being in the same place they are right now.
Only time will tell, but as of right now Sony and Microsoft have had a tremendously better early-generation success than Nintendo.
