Bulbasaur lets you breeze through the first half of the game. Hell, that alone lets you solo the game with just Venusaur in your party. I did it once.

If you actually read what Oak says when you click on each of them. it ranges from Easy mode (Bulbasaur, because gains exp faster) to Hard mode (Charmander).

This. Grass types were known as easy to raise in gen 1... Bulbasaur evolves into Venusaur at 32 rather than the other two which evolve st level 36.

I was under the impression that squirtle was easy mode, tbh. The multitudes of bugs and poison types kind of make bulbasaur's non gym battles a bit of a struggle - though it still has an easier time than charmander.

And Bulba beats shit out of Rock Gym, Water Gym, Resists third, fourth and fifth gym.

Squirtle beats first Gym resists second gym and is weak to third.

Charmander gets beaten by both first and second gyms.

Therefore, those who get Charizard are masters.

I thought about it because I had once a Slowbro which won me many battles but I really hate Slowbro as a species of Pokemon. I had to throw him in a box and keep him there forever. So, yeah.
