there will also be ladders for PU (unofficial tier below NU), Doubles UU and Little Cup UU, so that's pretty cool

The baggage Togekiss brings with it is why I don't want it in UU. Paraflinch is a bitch strat and Game Freak should be kicked in the fucking teeth for allowing it to happen. Togekiss without paraflinch is simply a bulky special attacker/support mon, which is what it will be used as high on the ladder. But jesus fucking christ are we going to see more faggots finchspamming their way to victory.

Nothing with bullet punch and a decent attack stat is going to be bad in uber because of Geodeer. That is it's niche now, and it's the most powerful user of it, with Scizor being the defensive option.

Magic Guard is better, fuckwad. It means it can switch into hazards and still keep its sash intact which gives it the ability to revenge kill anything in the tier. Magic Bounce is fun for all of three seconds, but then you get to a decent rank and people stop being retards that try to use Toxic/SR when an Espeon is on the opponent's team.

You do know that physical Fire types just got better, right? Slowbro did more to stop fire types than any other bulky water, and Quagsire is worthless in UU since barely anything buffs and Vaporeon has a paper thin defense stat.

Mew never got tested in gen 4, it was just on the initial banlist, so I'm not sure if it would have been broken there. but I think its ability as a baton passer was what people assumed would be broken, since the meta was less powerful back then

Except it only provides immunity if you switch into it and reflect. Good prediction kills Espeon outright. Maybe you switch into a Donphan expecting them to set up rocks and oops, he predicted that and hit you with EQ. It adds a layer of thought to prediction, but it doesn't provide absolute immunity in the way Magic Guard does. If Magic Bounce were such a good ability in UU Xatu would see some use, but oh wait Xatu is NU.

Even factoring in the abilities Alakazam is significantly better. Espeon was only OU because of BP fuckery. Alakazam is an all-purpose revenge killer, which isn't something Espeon could ever dream of being in UU or anywhere else.

Xatu is NU because Xatu is a piece of shit.

It has terrible bulk so you can't use it as a Magic Bounce pivot and it has mediocre offenses and speed so you can't use it as a screener (like Espeon) or an offensive mon (like Absol or Espeon)

Which is why it's a revenge killer. With a sash it can switch into things that can't outspeed it, but one of the reasons Alakazam is so good in UU is because it can survive a hit from one of the many Scarfers in UU and revenge kill it. If that scary Hydreigon KO'd one of your mons, you can be certain Alakazam will survive a hit and KO it back with Dazzling Gleam.

It's late game. You opponent has kept rocks on the field and you risk being swept by Scarfdreigon. There's fucking nothing that can revenge kill it on your team because either your scarfer can't KO it at its current HP or it's KO'd. You've kept Alakazam for just this occasion! Sac something. Now bring in Alakazam. It takes no damage from rocks so it still has its sash. You oppnent can't switch into anything because Alakazam is a serious offensive threat, so they stay in and hit Alakazam and bring it down to its sash. Since Alakazam is still alive, it KO's back with Dazzling Gleam or Focus Blast.

Good job, you aren't being swept anymore.

Before the June drops it really was worthy of the S rank, but the June drops and the unbanning of Hydreigon changed the tier dramatically. Current UU is not the same as pre-June UU.

The whole notion of tiering sucks, IMHO.

There should be essentially two tiers. One with legendaries and one without. Why can't Smogon just use this simple formula? Heatran and the genies can fuck off and we can allow the easily-obtained mons to shine.

The whole tiering by usage doesn't say much about the Pokemon's competitive abilities. The viability rankings thread is a lot more useful I think since those try to look at the Pokemon's ability to function in the tier, meaning even stuff like Amoonguss from RU is considered a A- threat on OU. That being said, it's also more subjective since it's based on user discussion so there are a lot of things going up and down the rankings every week.

As great as that sounds on paper, Quagsire has always found it extremely difficult to fit onto UU teams. I would honestly take Swampert over Quagsire in UU any day since it takes less damage from any of those threats, does more damage back, and can be put onto most teams thanks to it being one of the few users of Stealth Rock that work on bulky offense.

So to run down what's happened, the lingering remains of BP chains have gone back to their rightful place, Diancie is on her trip down to NU where she belongs (until mega Diancie dredges her up to like RU or UU at most), Togekiss dropped because it isn't as good as other support mons in OU and Paraflinch couldn't keep it useful.

On the other hand, removing Aegislash has made Heracross and Mew rise, while Slowbro finally gained enough usage to rise. Magnezone also rose for some reason or another, though it has always been a great niche mon just like Slowbro.

While I'm kind of miffed at losing three of my favorite mons from UU (and gaining a massive pain in the ass), OU is looking great. I can totally see myself playing it until ORAS takes a massive shit on it.
