>>20859733Because singles is inherently a mess and smogon needs to put a lot of bans on in singles to keep it balanced, while doubles, the only metagame which focuses any attention on, is naturally much more balanced and only requires a couple bans if any. Sure there are a few over-centralizing pokemon in doubles like Kangaskhan and Thundurus but those are just as if not more powerful in singles. Things which break singles like Blaziken and Mega Gengar are likewise manageable or even uncommon in doubles. I love both Smogon Doubles and VGC, but singles, smogon's main metagame, is always going to have issues no matter how many bans they put in place.
The main problem isn't that smogon is shit, although it does sometimes make questionable decisions. The problem is that the game isn't designed well for single battles, so making a good singles metagame without something overcentralizing is difficult.
