A:The basic structure of Pokemon games and the elements that keep the series together like Gyms, Elite Four and Champions are not going to change.
We still haven't decided which of the newly-introduced features we're going to keep; we never distinguish between "experiments" and "features to keep".

A:This time we have indeed been influenced by fans and we had planned to make these remakes for some time. November 21 2012, the day of the tenth anniversary of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, I decided to assign the role of Game Director to Shigeru Ohmori, it was the first game he worked on as Director since he joined Game Freak.

A:What? How come you've already played the games? *hearty laughter*
[the games were supposed to come out in Italy the day after the interview]
We created a "balanced" game that was suited for our time and age, where everyone is very busy and young people have various means of entertainment. Using smartphones and other devices they can access a great number of games, so the time they dedicate to a single game is less than in the past.
The player can choose to keep on playing after the main story and continue to the post-game, where the difficulty rises and there are much more difficult Trainers and challenges to overcome.

Q:Why wasn't the Battle Frontier in the remakes?
A:This question is connected with my previous answer. We didn't put the BF in ORAS for this very reason.
Interviewer's note: In short he means that they didn't include the BF because only a very small part of the players would have fully appreciated and made use of this feature; nowadays players get bored and frustrated more easily and they aren't interested in things that are so demanding/challenging.

A:It's a rather technical matter, we had some limitations whan creating music before but now with the Nintendo 3ds the whole process is a lot easier and we can take full advantage of the potential of the console.

Q:How do you choose what region a Pokemon game takes place in? Do your journeys influence that decision?
What about Italy, is there a chance a future Pokemon game could take place in our peninsula and feature some typical cities and cultural elements?

A:First we choose the theme of the game and then we decide where it will take place.
For example, in X and Y we picked France because of the "beauty" theme (Kalos means beauty in Ancient Greek). We wanted to highlight this aspect seeing as this was our first game on 3DS.
In Black and White the theme was "union" so there were a lot of different people and cities, all united together (that's where the name Isshu/Unova comes from).
Perhaps in the future we'll find a theme which could be represented by Italy, who knows... *laughter*

[basically they choose which Pokemon will be blessed with MegaEvolution depending on three elements:
1 - which Pokemons are more used in official tournaments and wifi competitions, so they can balance the game and shake up strategies
2 - the importance some Pokemons have in the main story (see Lucario)
3 - finally, they also consider what the fans want the most]

That said, I think it would be worth it anyway. It'd enhance the game's playtime and people who would want to play it (which, while a minority, is a loyal and perhaps overly-obsessed minority) that would really appreciate it. I know that I personally would've loved to actually take advantage of the fact that breeding isn't terrible now.

Also, it'd be great to just explore in general. 3D Seviper building sounds like it'd be awesome.

Like, I get the decision, and it's logical and not stupid like some thing that come out of their mouths, but I kinda disagree with it personally, as do a lot of people here, I'm sure.

So is there any reason left to buy pokemon games as they come out? This line of reasoning is one big "we don't want you" to anyone older than 10 who's played a mainline game before.

I think you're misinterpreting point 1. When they say one of the criteria is competitive viability, I think a fair assumption is that the shitmons that see no usage might get Megas to shake it up. Things like Audino, Camerupt, Altaria, Manectric. Just shitmons with no niche that really appreciate the buff.

They put those resources towards putting a ton of legendareis in the game. Which was a great choice for them, 10 year olds and casuals don't give a shit about the BF whereas EVERYONE loves legendaries.

I'd like to see Masuda explaination on what exactly has changed between the year 2012 and 2013 that it was ok to release a game with difficulty modes and sensible level curve in 2012, and then throw the baby out with the bathwater in 2013.

I mean this argument could work if Pokemon got a new game, lets say, every 4-5 years. But it's a goddamn yearly release, like CoD. There is no time for any drastic "gamer mentality" changes in such a short time.

Reality: the in-game got so easy it's painfully boring to play through, while the competitive is somehow still fucking hard to get into.

The problem with contests is that they're easy-mode. If every mon has maxed condition, then that whole round wouldn't do a damn thing. Then there's just the moves round, and very few moves have unique contest effects.

The entire contest metagame would consist of "4 heart move/jam opponents/lather/rinse/repeat".

What the hell sort of excuse is that? It wasn't any fucking different when gens 1-3 were new. TV and cinema existed back then, loads of video games were around, even if it was shit internet existed back then too. Then there's always school/work.

The amount of time someone dedicates to a single game depends on how much they're into the series, smartphones and all don't affect that at all. And it's pretty obvious someone's going to put more time into a game when there's a lot of shit to do in said game. How can they be surprised that someone won't put a load of time into a game when there's not all that much to do once you beat it? Sure there are online battles, the Maison and... I guess breeding if you're into it, but having something different for once won't hurt anyone. At least there are secret bases now.

Games have gotten way too easy in general as of late. People have become too used to just looking up an answer when they can't figure something out and figuring that if the answer isn't on google then there's something wrong and they shouldn't have to put any brainpower into thinking of an answer themselves.

Also, the Battle Frontier is so loved because while the Mansion or whatever only offers different battle formats, the Frontier offered battles with different fundamental rules. For each building, the player had to learn new rules and a new way to battle. It added longevity to the game with the variety. I find it sad that companies are catering to the people who refuse to use their brain when presented with a problem and want the game to just give them what they want without earning it.

My guess is that ORAS is set in a time before the Battle Frontier/at least Battle Tower was built, and the little Tower model is an architectural model people make before putting a building up. How is it any different from the Maison, then? You can't say that the Frontier's rules "add more longevity than actual different battle formats which change the gameplay in its basis. Fighting 3 turns, fighting while having seen the opponent's team before the battle and fighting normally don't change anything in how the game is played. With triples you have to play in a totally different way and have a different mindset.
We could have an exception with the Palace, because while still a normal battle it still changes how the game is played or technically, how it's NOT played.

Though a Battle Factory facility should've been something that became standard thing like the usual endgame-BT clone or the Move Relearner are.

Pokemon in Japan is still marketed as a kids franchise. Diancie is the perfect example, you could only get it by going to the movie. Corocoro, which has Pokemon info and promotions in it, is a kids magazine. There is that chart around here of the Japanese players average age and you can see a lot of kids still.

In the west my guess is no. We don't have statistics but I haven't seen little kid Pokemon players since I was a kid myself. The kids on youtube are still like 15.

Gen VI is the worst generation yet. The whole gen was a literal cashgrab.

I was excited as hell for X/Y, when I woke up and saw all the videos on youtube about it, I nearly died from hype.

Then I got the game, and it was a pretty big disappointment, not a lot of new Pokemon, pretty small region, forgettable towns and gym leaders.

Then boom, OR/AS. Fuck yes, same excitement, get the game. I like it, it's a good game, it just feels like they didn't put as much effort as they should have in to it. And now we know they're catering to casuals, and it just pisses me right off.

Hopefully Z will be better and actually feel fucking completed. But I'm not expecting anything good after these.

X/Y was the moment when GF FINALLY decided to try out something new. Lots of new features, game finally in 3d, etc. It wasn't as wonderful as it could have been, but it was a commendable leap forward. Definitely not a Cashgrab.

ORAS on the other hand, simply took what X/Y had already established and set it in the Hoenn Region while using half assed excuses to cover up for the fact that it WAS a stupid cashgrab running on the hype of millions of casuals that had latched onto the HOE N CUM FIRMD meme.

I was stupid enough to buy this faggot game, but i'm not delude enough to defend this jewery. If you actually consider this the GOAT pokemon games, then i can safely say you've got no standards.

But ya know what, they're probably not, because they hyped the fuck out of X/Y. I was excited as fuck for that, and when I got it, it disappointed me because they weren't what I expected.

OR/AS however, there weren't many updates, many good CoroCoro leaks, not much of anything, so I was just sort of "Meh" about it, so when I got it, it went further than my expectations thought how it would be. So I liked it.

After around 13 years of playing Pokemon, I'm finally considering dropping the series. I can't believe what I'm reading. It's painfully obvious that Masuda doesn't give a shit about the games or their fanbase. First of all, he contradicts himself. First he says that people who want challenge should play the post-game, and right after that he says that the post-game is easy and half-assed so that casuals wouldn't get frustrated. Another thing is that he doesn't even seem to understand any of the questions or how he answers them. He is asked about optional difficulty levels and he replies that they would make the game too difficult. For fucks sake, OPTIONAL hard difficulty wouldn't make the game too difficult, especially if you also had the possibility to choose easy. Did he even listen to the question? Besides, his typical answer seems to be some variation of "I don't know, haha". He answers most of the questions as if they were some kind of jokes, obviously not realizing that these are real concerns among the fanbase. He actually thinks that people want half-assed and shallow games with no content because "they're busy", and every time when someone asks why something was left out of the game, he just laughs and says "dunno lol", completely ignoring what the fans really want. It's only going to get worse and you know it. It's time for Masuda to leave and be replaced by someone who actually knows what he's doing.

In the Pike and Pyramid, you need to conserve your team as best as possible because your team doesn't get healed after the fight, unlike in the Maison.

And the Dome only lets you fight with 2 Pokemon, meaning an offensive playstyle is beneficial, seeing as how you can't properly defend with only 2 Pokemon. Also choice items are more valuable because battles won't last very long there

As someone who played Emerald and nearly maxed the in-game clock, I have no clue why is everyone this mad.

Battle Frontier was a fun niche, but got boring after a while. Basically it was 7 different Battle Towers with different niches. And hey, many of them were batshit stupid, tedious and certainly not fun (especially the Battle Palace, You don't even get to pick your moves).
Oh, and quick reminder you can't catch the wild shinies inside the frontier facilities.

Instead, game should be measured according to HOW MUCH they improved on their Predecessor. X/Y Improved on B/W in a lot of ways and added vigor to a franchise that was getting stale even if that came at a price ( Lots of technical issues, unexistent difficulty, etc.)

What did ORAS do to stand out? Dexnav is the only redeemable addition, and that's not good enough to make a good game.

Time to kill myself. I mean, all this time people have been saying that making games easier and all the handholding were just a casualization of the media, but I truly believed that the developers didn't see it as such.

As a matter of fact, it didn't even bother to fix the technical issues X/Y had, it recycled its assets for the sake of extending gameplay and layed waste to one of its own gen's more iconic additions.

I don't have as much fun battling in-game because Pokemon was always more of a social game, so I never cared where the Battle Frontier went.

I'm often busy in classes and things and mostly play for lore and being a Pokefucker, so I don't feel like grinding for a month to get past the first gym.

Not only that, but even I remember when I was a 12 year old and got Emerald. I had never played RPGs before; in fact, I hardly like any RPGs at all except for Pokemon.

And I was fucking shit at managing my team's moves; I even ignored status moves and all that shit. When I got to the BF, it was hard as fuck because my team was in no way prepared for how difficult and challenging that shit was. And yet, I never dropped the game in frustration. I actually enjoyed trying out the BF, even though I usually got destroyed in every facility and I only ever got two fucking silver emblems, not even gold ones. It was frustrating when I got to a Frontier Brain and always lost. But hell, it was satisfying as fuck too. And I still put 500 fucking hours on that game just because of that.

If it really is true that kids today just drop something at the minor sign of challenge, then this society needs to do something about the ADHD running around rampant. Because holy fuck.

Since Emerald, the last game of a generation always has some big postgame Battle-whatever-the-fuck so I still think there will be something in the next game even with all the bullshit casualization going on.

Even if all the references to the Battle Frontier in ORAS turn out to be full of shit and it turns out to be something different like the PWT I'd still take it. But if there's nothing or the Battle Maison again I'm fucking done with this series. I'm fucking tired of breeding and EV training all these fucking pokemon and having it all go towards nothing.

Legendaries? Those could be completely separate from soaring and it'd be the exact same thing. Making them accessible only by soaring is just padding it out.

Mirage Spots are fucking garbage. Who thought putting TMs on randomly chosen islands you have no fucking control over was a good idea?

And as an alternative to flying, it's a waste of time. I'd much rather sacrifice a slot on my team for an HM slave then have to sit through the same animation a million times, then fly to where I want to go on the map manually, and watch another extended animation.

well, they did it. they actually managed to do it. gamefreak has managed to severely dissapoint me. i had faith in the series hoping it would become amazing again. but after hearing this i... i... ive lost faith in pokemon.

i actually fear the 7th gen now, i can already tell it will be nothing but a cheap, casual fest with heavily dumbed down to near nonexistant gameplay, a story so bad it rivals guild wars 2, progressively shit music, a meta broken beyond repair, and worst of all, the downgrade of pokemon to digimon.

it didn't have to go down this road, pokemon didn't need to go this way, why? beause of iphone casuals? now the whole franchise will be doomed to a yearly cash grab only standing because of its popularity. the great pokemon ship is sinking. and all we can do no is either sink with it or watch it die from afar.

There is so many of us who would love GF if they just added a difficulty option and not casualize there games, why can't they cater to both of us? Why is it so difficult for them? Time? Probably. Money? They're filthy rich.

The only that most normal pokemon players complain about is not having a game where you can go to all regions or something stupid like that. This whole "GF is always fucking the players over" is almost exclusively a /vp/ thing.
