I've played through FireRed a bunch of times since '05. I'm currently replaying Yellow, and I have to say it's pretty refreshing compared to more modern Pokemon games in general.

My favorite part, tbh, is that I don't have to worry about my Nature autism and IVs. I just catch a Pokemon and its rady to go.

I'd really like it if we went back to that.

But getting back to the OP, the remakes are about as nice as can be expected. I kind of wish they added a post-game Johto or at least included things like Crobat and Espeon/Umbreon in the regional dex. The music isn't as good, either. And some of the sprites are a little funky, but thats gen 3 in general. Enjoyable over all, though.

Come on, man. Crits were based on speed and Hyper Beam doesn't need to recharge on KOs. Does not make them buggy.

I played through FRLG a ton, and I can say I like the originals more. There's something with the graphics, Red's sprite, some pokémon sprites feels wrong too, there's a weird 3Dish feeling to them like Graveler's or Machoke's, and I like RSE's sprites a ton more in general. I'd say FRLG lack the atmosphere RBY had, or that any of the other pokémon games have

Yeah, of course they are, since the first games are a glitchy mess. But there's something that makes them more enjoyable, to me at least. I also think some FRLG sprites lack energy and life, unlike GSC's and RSE's. Again, something something personal opinion

FRLG sprites for the 151 mons are far better and more polished, I think that's because RS didn't used all these mons sprites since they were uncatchable, so it was a bit rushed.

Nice projection, newfriend. I was 6 when RB came out in 1999. And the GBA games are among the most successful in the series, only topped by the GB+GBC and DS games.

It's been years since I played Red but I can clearly remember how stupid some Pokemon's movepools were or how grindy the game was (addition of Sevii Islands and Vs Seeker was a good solution in that regard).

Apart from unique mechanics, connectivity to Stadium and abovementioned subjective things 1st gen doesn't have much going for it imo.

I ask, because my copy of LeafGreen says that. And the case is clear-green. And the sticker isn't shiny. And it once deleted a save for no raisin.

Why does an opinion always boil down to nostalgia here? Hoenn had nice graphics, simple enough while still enough detailed to understand. It had a great range of areas: woodland, island, desert, volcano, mountain, jungle, ocean... The legendaries got a bit OTT, but at least they weren't gods and only 3 of them really mattered.

I'd say the only thing Gen 1 has over the remakes is the over world sprites and music made the atmosphere a lot better. And even then FRLG had pretty decent sprites and okay music.

Everything else, FRLG improved on or did the same. They're really enjoyable games to play through and restart all over again. Kanto is a really fun region and the Sevii Islands made it even more fun. I honestly would not mind a Kanto re-remake in Gen VII, set in the same Gen I time frame or beyond, but I'm kind of scared to see what a 3D Kanto would look like.

What exactly did they change from Gen I that made them more simple that wasn't something that increased efficiency like bag sorting? (And thank fuck for bag sorting, I always hated the way it was in Gen I with TMs scattered all throughout my bag) I can't think of anything honestly. The maps seemed very accurate to the way they were in Gen I.

That wasn't in Gen I in the first place, but I see what you mean. They could have put that in, but honestly I didn't expect that since GF dropped Night/Day in Ruby and Sapphire before that in the first place. I don't even see the need for time keeping when there's no Night/Day system.
