I've found Treeko is the best partner for a fire-type. Dragon Breath is stupidly overpowered during the main story, with only steel and fairy Pokemon able to resist it (neither of which are a big deal for fire-types). It also has a fairly high chance of paralyzing.

Funny enough, I went back to Sky last night and prefer its gameplay as a whole. There are definitely some improvements in Super (and even Gates), but the reliance on wands and orbs and emeras and the increased difficulty really scale back the comfy factor. I find myself dreading story dungeons because they seem to go on forever.

Loopletd and emeras remind me of the new Chibi-Robo game in which the power cord you use as your whip/grappling hook can be extended with powerups, but reverts to its original lengths as soon as you complete the level. It's discouraging.

I spent a long time trying to decide which I liked better and I honestly think the games are about even.

I asked this in the last thread, but does anyone have any tips for recruiting the Future Trio? Someone mentioned Dragon Gate, but I'm barely at Gold rank and I unlock that dungeon at Ace. I've been trying to find connections with Ledyba, Sudowoodo, and Whismur like some other people have recommended, but Whismur keeps not having any missions for me and I can't find Ledyba or Sudowoodo in dungeons.

Whismur is an NPC you talk to in either the grass or air continent, it doesn't have a mission attached to it. Try finishing up missions you have there while working there.

Sudowoodo is a mission, not a traveler. He has one of those "visit my base" ones.

No idea about Ledyba. Don't have it yet.

Guess I'm the type who prefers using items as little as possible. The rate at which you need to chug down Elixirs is ludicrous because every enemy encounter takes four or five hits and enemies only appear in hallways where the guy in back can only used ranged moves.

Revelation Mountain is probably my top pick; the rest of the dungeon music is already but none of it really stands out or sets an atmosphere the same way it does.

The remix of Amp Plains is pretty awesome, though. I found myself tapping my foot the entire first way through the Electric Wasteland.

Sure you don't destroy rooms at a time, but is is just so satisfying to absolutely obliterate enemies one by one with Tail Slap.

Even if you are completely outleveled, there's nothing quite like hitting an absolute monster 10 times in a turn.

I tried doing the mewtwo fight wandless/orbless/reviver seedless without grinding and figuring out how to beat him without resorting to status spam or immunities was the most fun i've had all game.

For the most part, I'd say, yeah. There's some standout tracks in SMD's OST like the final boss theme, Revelation Mountain and such, but overall none of the tracks are ones that I'd particularly hum in my head, or find really striking or memorable. Granted, I play Sky a lot even to this day, even if it's just doing a mission while on a work break or something. Combined with Super being so new, maybe Super's soundtrack just hasn't had enough time to worm its way into my head yet.

i just replayed through gates to infinity, probably the "worst" in the pmd series, and the ending had me crying like a little bitch. the fact you had to leave during the save-the-world celebrations and how you just snuck out because you didn't want to hurt anyone, but your partner secretly prepared that huge-ass statement that you listened to as you disappeared into nothingness feels-bombed the fuck out of me.

but after i beat psmd the ending where your partner up and leaving after telling you they're actually Mew left me feeling actually pretty dissatisfied. the whole endgame felt really poorly executed and rushed. the only thing i really thought in the credits was "oh" and nothing else. it kind of stung for the finale to be so meh especially since every past game's ending put me on full tilt

Yeah, quite a few you can find as travelling Pokemon.
My suggestion is to just tackle an 11 or so floor dungeon while doing quests, the game tells you when a traveling Pokemon will appear, I've gotten multiple Pokemon in a row in the same dungeon thanks to this.

I felt pretty similar, though I felt that the post credits part where you're alone hit me much harder than the reveal itself. Being on the other end was a pretty good twist I think, so there are definitely parts of the ending that could have been handled better.

The whole last third or so of the game is kind of fucked like that, yeah. The time you spend in Serene Village goes on too long, the next part before the Voidlands doesn't go on long enough (hence why the Amphy Guild gets shafted so much characterization-wise), and then the last part is rushed as hell, trying to stuff way too much exposition and way too many twists into too little time. It's like if Grovyle never told you about you disappearing with the timeline in Explorers, and then after beating Primal Dialga, your partner walks away and then suddenly Dialga says "hey you gotta die now lol". The suddenness of the twist would rob much of it of the emotional impact.

I literally got swarmed by 5 fucking Houndoom earlier in that place, all I had that would effect them was Scratch (Fennekin). My other moves either didn't work (Psybeam) or would just make them stronger (Flamethrower).

Had to use up nearly all my wands just to escape any and all Houndoom.

As much as I'd love to hold out hope that the series can stop falling into the trend of "nearly perfected early on and the entries afterward are contested", this is a really solid point to consider. There's so many Pokemon now that even though the Connection Orb kind of sucks at doing part of its job (making you feel connected with a Pokemon community), there might have been no other way to reasonably incorporate all 720 in there.

I kept dying and dying and dying (I wasted a lot of time trying to grind you didn't gain exp with large or during the times you die when evolved). I dyed a lot of times in the dungeon. What are looplets? Things I would lose in dungeons that I knew I would just lose again when I died.

The starters were always the strongest things I had. Trying to rescue myself was pointless and a waste of time if I could just grind more.

How far can you feasibly make it in the Epilogue without the use of vitamins, and being economical with your items?

That's what I've been doing the whole time, no failed missions even, but where I'm at now (650/720) things are getting very rough, if even doable. Just wondering if everyone picked recipients for vitamins, or used their items more liberally around this point.

Reshiram/Zekrom and Darkrai are my current obstacles.

Yeah, decided to check out Sky a couple of weeks before Super came out in the US so I can find out if the series is for me or not.

Story's not incredible per se, but it's a massive step up from anything else in the franchise I've played. Reviver seeds are way too centralizing though, having them recover all PP and hunger is overpowered as fuck.

Yeah, I would have to agree.
Why bother with elixirs, apples, and healing items when you can just carry a TON of those around? The only threat at that point is honestly Heal Block since they can prevent reviver seeds.

Gameplay's solid enough but it's not great. Very monotonous, but it works fine. Tougher than the main series, which I like.

Story's fantastic by pokemon standards, but only good by regular ones. The episodes were the best part, more specifically 1 2 and 5, and there's a lot of feels moments, as much as I hate that word. Characters were much better in the episodes in general.

Soundtrack is the best part, one of the finest on the DS.

If I wanted anything from Super (and maybe the others if I get round to them) is more features to break up the monotonous gameplay and for the story to get moving a bit quicker, and some better character development in the main story.

Friendly reminder that fresh apples turn into regular apples if you just leave them in your deposit box. pretty much anything honestly, pick your favorite or something with a good move pool or ability
something with a barrage ability like unburden or swift swim or a pokemon with a strong room attack are good starting points

I've been roiding sandslash, lapras, and shedinja and they're all working well for me

Any Pokemon with access to Earthquake and/or Discharge. What you don't hit with one move you'll hit with other most of the time unless they have a move or ability that resists them. These two moves work absolute wonders in dungeons, especially when you're running into monster houses on almost every floor

I did that in Sky and just sent it out on its own every mission to pass through walls and wreck shit up. Shedinja is even more broken in this because you can use your teammates to scout out the map now.

late-game Chesnaught is a fucking monster with pin missile and rollout, Delphox can snipe anything and clear room with heat wave, Galvantula fills the last remaining weakness hole and rolls with Discharge
