Depends on the pokemon

For the kalos starters, delphox would do well with something like sheer force since it'd presumably be a fast but frail attacker (although flavor wise it doesn't fit), while greninja would probably be best off keeping protean

What good is no crits on a mon with lackluster sp d and a 4x weakness to bird spam? What good is magic guard on an offensive frail attacker that can't abuse life orb? Suddenly taking no SR damage doesn't make it useful on its own

4 weaknesses: Bug, Fighting, Ice, Steel. None of these are ludicrously crippling, especially with solid rock.
Slap some special defence on it and a few more points into defence and it can set up all day, or stall indefinitely because it's already pretty good at that.
