I get being unnerved by them; they can be serious uncanny valley, along with those unblinking, ever staring eyes, but a genuine FEAR of them? Like, "I'll have a panic attack if I'm locked in the room with one" kind of fear? Did you watch Chucky when you were five or something?

I do actually.
I browse /x/ from time to time and even try to find decent creepypasta
It's just I grew up with my Grandma and in the long hallway from the staircase she had a 3 foot tall doll that was old as shit.
It always felt like it was staring at me and it would take hours for me to sleep and I would usually have nightmares.
That shit leaves an impact.

PTSD has been around long, long before tumblr, dumbass. During WW1, it was called Grenade Shock, and was a huge problem. It was described again and again by survivors from WW2, despite the guilt they felt for not being able to "let it go".
