Eh, Likitung is based in LC, I'd say Horsea or Seadra. Kingdra is unpopular due to it being difficult to get, and they don't get much distribution otherwise.

Nobody gave a give about it, even when Gen 1 was new, it's always been inferior, even to fucking Pidgey.

Whereas people instantly recognize even the lowly Pidgey. Spearow is in a class of its own when it comes to forgettable. And you all know it.

Are you sure? I never used either, but I thought (in gen 1) fearow was considered better than pidgeot in every way other than being frailer.

(unless you were talking unevolved forms specifically, and not their long term viability)

Nah, always prided myself on Spearow being my early bird mon of choice in Gen 1, sometimes in Gen 2 as well thanks to the one with that letter you got and could keep by handing over any old shitter instead. Only ever kept it around to the end a couple times though.

Dewgong sounds closest to accurate in this topic so far, notable as a rare Ice type but not really anything else. Also literally my mom's dugong.

Horsea line isn't forgettable due to Misty using Horsea pretty frequently in the anime, and Kingdra being Claire's signature mon.

It's hard for me to pick any truly unmemorable gen 1 mons, because that's when the pokemania was at its peak. There were so many different media and merchandise being stuffed down our throats, every pokemon has at least some kind of tale to it.

Well, for starters, Bellsprout was a surprise pick because Beedrill and Scyther were before it, clearly more intimidating Pokemon.

Then, it managed to single-handedly take out Ash's Bulbasaur, which was on a roll, and even Ash's pride and joy Pikachu. A fucking Bellsprout.

Then, it was Ash's Muk's first battle. The fact that it hadn't been seen in battle yet, was a surprise pick, AND it went on to beat the Bellsprout had me on the edge of my seat as a kid.

I'd say to any Pokemon fan it was a goddamn memorable episode.

Kanto had some great episodes. I loved Ash's Mankey/Primeape and all the episodes it was in. Surge vs. Ash was also pretty great. Mewtwo's appearance was mysterious and thrilling.

The fact that a lot of episodes were memorable doesn't mean that it makes others less memorable. Charizard vs. Magmar still gives me chills. Ash catching Caterpie and Pidgeotto in the same episode is still one of my favorites. Hypno making people into Pokemon is a great filler episode.

Indigo League is special because it was a part of Kanto where battles were in every episode. This is what everyone wanted: to see Ash battle his way through a tournament. It's a hype that has lived on through generations of the anime. So when Muk (a Pokemon that Ash hadn't used yet) fought a Bellsprout (a Pokemon that was about to knock Ash out of said tournament), you're damn right I'll remember it.

If something makes another thing look sub par, for example said Bellsproute episode, yes it does affect the memorability of the episode.
It doesn't stand out on it's own at all like the others did, it only had a single played out joke.

It was located in one small patch of grass on one route that you could entirely skip over.

It was part of one of the easiest Gyms in the game because the majority of players destroyed Erika with Charmeleon or Pidgeotto.

Its one major appearance in Season one of the anime was less than a minute.

It certainly wasn't. We had been teased about this Muk for episodes. We wanted to know if it would ever get any battle time. And then, it shows up to win a crucial battle for Ash. AT the time that episode aired, I was in awe. I loved every second of it. Just decomposing it into "same gimmick every episode" just means that you saw it with a bias going in.

The Kanto anime was more exciting because you never knew who was gonna win and how. Some call this bullshit and prefer the more streamlined way that the anime works now, but I thought it was great that type difference could be overcome by skill. Just look at Ash vs. Misty in the Cerulean Gym fight. Why is Pigeotto winning against Starmie? Why is Butterfree losing to a Staryu. It made for good fun.

If we're going off anime then it's probably porygon since that was literally banned in the anime after one episode and was a pain in the ass to get in the games.

Buddy, you think I haven't? It's one of my favorites. And I think you're forgetting something. It's an episode that was special while you were following the anime, not as an isolated episode. It stands out because we all wanted to see Muk in action. It stands out because no one knew when Muk was going to battle (or Krabby in another episode). It stands out because after all that travelling to get badges and getting to the league, Ash was going to lose to a Bellsprout. Just taking the episode out of context is useless, and it's exactly what you're doing from the looks of things.

It may not be memorable to you, but people actually watching the series when it aired can still remember the time when a Bellsprout gave Ash a run for his money.

Except, you know, finish off a Pokemon that was giving Ash trouble in one Body Slam. How about winning a league match on its first appearance? What about how we didn't even know Muk was going to be in this episode, let alone in battle?

And why shouldn't I assume that? It had me and my friends talking around the playground for weeks. A bellsprout was pushing Ash's shit in. That was mind blowing, even more than the sandshrew episode because that one was early in the series. To hear you say that it was bland and disappointing makes me believe that you saw it with a cynical bias.

Young adulthood around 2000 is certainly old enough to remember the original games considering I got red in 98 when I was 6 and can remember my first team in it

From the old I always loved the Haunted tower as it had my favorite ghosts, and I loved the visuals we experienced with Ghost ash. I still have book from this episode.

From new series - I don't know why I really enjoyed the Bug gym battle in XY. It was so nicely paced, and I was happy to see Vivilion moving.

BW even if is cosidered shit had many great episodes that focus on Pokemon itself. Darmanitan one, The one with Dweeble searching new stone... And I loved the pokemon characters.

Jesus Christ, maybe you're the underaged one here because you have the thinking skills of a five year old. And for the record the Indigo League and the first season of the anime was absolute shit, the only worthwhile thing was that english opening theme.
