every cubone found in the wild is a direct descendant of the cubone from lavender. it wore it's mother's skull and when it evolved it's head grew to fit it and fused with it. it's offspring were all born with the skull already in place. all pokedex entries refer to the original.

I thought it had something to do with bones being buried. Of course, most animals don't bury they're dead, and those don't look like human skulls. Still, I think their like grave gaurdians or grave-robber pokemon. It also makes me thing of so-called "fossil" ivory, which isn't actually fossilized, but is just elephant or mammoth tusks that are left on or slightly in the ground after the corpse rots away.

What bothered me about that scene was how they were able to kill it with a cattle prod when it's a Ground-type. Not to mention the fact that Pokemon regularly take harsher punishment than that. When I was a kid I always thought they murdered it with Golbat or something.

Because bones/fossils are associated with the earth and dust in Japan, which is why they're ground type and fossil pokemon are rock type.

Same reason why the new Moon legend isn't dark type, dark is the evil type in Japan, and the Moon isn't a symbol of evil or darkness there. Its a symbol of light, beauty, wisdom, and also sometimes cute rodents.

It's not psychic because aura is supposed to be ki, which is more related to physical fighters and typically has a division between magic/ESP and ki/chi, some bullshit about internal vs external or something. It's not ghost because it's not dead or haunted, dummy.

But then after seeing the name as "Glide+Gargoyle" it kinda blew my mind, & while that theme really doesn't carry over to Gliscor's design (being a cross evo & all) Istill find it pretty nifty.
