Literally the only thing he did wrong was preventing you from fighting Alder at anything that wasn't a bullshit high level. He was a good rival and champion though, who had strong beliefs but realised when he was being manipulated. BW2 N is the best N.

I'm pretty sure he was there first and every E4 member mentions that. It was the player that was following him, not the other way around
