I included only the males, but obviously that also decides the females' and the rivals' starters as well. The only exceptions are Leaf, Kris, Lyra and Hilda. In Leaf and Kris's cases, just assume they do in fact receive the starter weak to their male counterpart. Lyra gets no starter. Hilda gets the same starter as Hilbert.

Because G/S/C/HG/SS/B2/W2 Red and Ash started with Pikachu, manga Red started with Bulbasaur and Origins Red started with Squirtle. Not a single Red started with Squirtle, it is usually considered Green's/Blue's canon starter.

Sorry but the NPCs he gets them from don't exist outside of Yellow and FR/LG replaced the previous canon.

Not that anon, but its clearly meant to be that no starter is canon, by giving him all of them.

Blue has all of his replacement Pokemon for starters from the non-Yellow games, which backs this up.

It really doesn't. Everything else in the games point towards Yellow not being canon and the only evidence for Yellow being canon is Red himself which can easily be explained through trading or even breeding seeing as current Red has visited the Sevii Islands and previous Red was found in Johto.

Did you people even play the games.

In Yellow, you could get all three starters + Pikachu. Then, you had Snorlax, Espeon, Lapras, depending if you played the original versions or the remakes.

It was done, so that all three starters are shown since they are equally important. Pikachu is the mascot of Pokemon and, because of it, was in the team as well.
The other two members were chosen not so much based on popularity, but because they were less subjective and more political choices. Snorlax, Espeon, Lapras, those Pokemon are either given away or rare.
You could make the argument then, "where is hitmonchan and the like", but you could only choose one. They did not want to limit that view and used those Pokemon instead.
Why Espeon and not Umbreon? Should be clear as one seems inherently good and "evil", so it is obvious they would choose Espeon over it.

If you look at it like that, you could argue that "Yellow" is the canon version as it is easy to see why. It is the easy to get those Pokemon in those games, the other option would be that he traded his Pokemon in order to get the starters. A possibility as well.
Neither are more right than the other. Because you just do not know it. You don't. Why would it not be logical for him to get the other starter through trading, or through Yellow?

Blue is a gym leader in Gen 2 and the remakes. There is no starter. He could have traded it with Red. He could have also traded his starter (Espeon) with Red.

Actually don't know what was said or implied with Red being at the Sevii Islands, but nothing would contradict anything. It's easy as fuck as one is open about it.
He could have just visited it later, whenever, may have visited it, or it being more of an amalgam between the remakes and "Yellow" if you want to go that far.

The idea is clearly that Blue is willing to switch around his team, but he still owns these Pokemon.

Pikachu is the mascot, so it makes sense that the first protag would have it. All versions of Red have a Pikachu as well.

Everyone is seeing the situation weird. It's not that yellow is canon, it's the unique events that take place in it that's canon.

Professor Oak distributed a Pikachu and Eevee to a new trainer and their Rival. The plot that happens in every Kanto game goes down and that's it. What really is canon would be a Yellow equivalent to FRLG. Thunder Yellow or something. It's just we can't play it.

Reds canon starter is Pikachu. His rivals is Eevee. And I'm gonna pretend the Bulbasaur and Charmander he got were Oak's and the female MC took Squirtle, because the one Red gets is apart of a gang.

You do realise that Blue has as well right with the same team he had during HG/SS.
And then there's the fact that the NPCs that gave him the pokemon don't exist at all in any other game and that FR/LG and HG/SS take over the canon of the Kanto and Johto games.

This thread is about canon starters, and no one has one beyond Red & Blue, every starter pick the protagonists have made in every game since is up to the player's imagination.
