I don't know WHY she would have inspired by her (i mean they're both actors but Audrey Hepburn wasn't french or particularly associated with France... I guess romcom is kind of a french-y genre of movie) but I'm almost certain she is.

Maybe they could change her hair to another Audrey style. The one she has now is inspired by her iconic short bangs look but I think the star shaped bun was just to help her fit into the Pokemon world better.

It wouldn't be audrey without the pixie bangs. I've seen images of audrey with a bun that kind of resembled diantha's and i think they just heavily stylized it, and there might be some star symbolism going on too, who knows. I really don't think it's egregiously bad anyway I think her outfit is worse but it doesn't ruin the character in general for me.

Actually, thinking about it it's not even really her outfit I don't care for in general, it's her shorts. They feel weird n her and they don't look especially good either though I can't exactly explain why. I nice dress or skirt would have been better I think.

To be honest I haven't watched any of her movies save for Breakfast at Tiffany's which I actually almost actually fucking bought the dvd for because she looks so unbelievable on the cover. I didn't and just watched it online and i didn't even like it all that much. But she's still a beautiful specimen of a woman. Which I find strange for me because I generally more shapely woman but Audrey was very... not that. But the way she dressed and carried herself was the best.

Her team was fine. I honestly don't know what people thought or expected. She has no type theme or anything. I tihnk most people take issue with her not participating in the story but I mean it's not like Cynthia or Steven or Lance or Alder or whatever really contributed all that much or had their character built upon at all just by being there. I don't think the games would have been severely hampered had they not had the roles they had.

"More" isn't "better". My original point was that it didn't add anything or improve her character. Honestly? I'd genuinely say Diantha probably has more of a character as an actor who wishes to change and improve her roles as she gets older than Cynthia who I still can't really peg to any kind of motivation or personality beyond "generically good" and being interested in legends and myths. And you see Diantha like twice before the E4.

I think it could have been cool to play up her star status more. Have her on the TV's in NPC houses, maybe one of the traveling group is a fan of her... something to give her career and status a presence so when she's actually seen, it's a really big deal.

I do think this wasn't played up. There's the one billboard in Lumiose, and I'm sure there's lots of NPCs that talk about her, but I think it'd be cool they sort of had some more backstory and information about her career. It doesn't really matter but it'd help immersion and give depth.

Except I just described something that gave Diantha a relatable character. Lots of pokemon characters have character. Cynthia didn't "contribute" anything. The plot and gameplay in general would be exactly the same had she been there or not.

Ignoring that, the criticism that Diantha didn't show up enough is entirely rooted in the idea that her showing up less means we saw less of her character. Otherwise, why does it matter if she showed up before the E4 or not?

And I just explained why Cynthia's role in the story had no relevance. You could get Secret Potion from any random NPC, you could have walked throguh the distortion world by yourself, etc. It doesn't make any difference i.e. be relevant. That doesn't mean it's okay that Diantha wasn't relevant of course but the point is the other champions appearing more during the main story didn't have any impact on anything either.

Diantha had just as much relevance as any other Champion. Cynthia held your hand through the Distortion World, Lance held your hand through the Rocket Base, Steven helped out at a space port or something, but none of it mattered since anyone could've done the same thing. They're just as useless as Diantha was.
The only Champion that had any importance to the ongoing story was Blue, and only because he was also the generic rival.

Thematically I think the fossils fit, Tyrantrum as the King to Gardevoir's queen/princess and Auroros for general beauty/rarity

Half the time, yeah. Most of those Champions tend to also have a handful of levels of advantage on you to prevent that. Cynthia is the only truly strong Champion, and no other Champion is intended to be fought on equal footing like Diantha is. It really makes her team stand out as weak.

I wasn't listing overlaps, and there ISN'T "massive overlap" on Diantha's team. She has 2 rock types, 2 dragon types. Ignoring type themed champions
Blue can have 3 flying types, and two psychic types
Alder has 3 bug types
And even with types champions, steven has 3 rock types on his team 2 of which aren't even steel, Iris has 2 rock types that that aren't even dragon and 2 pure dragon types, and you know all about all of Lance's teams, off the top of my head.

I don't give a shit to sit down and actually add up how many weaknesses and shit are shared between each Pokemon on every non-type champion's team or check the competitive viability of them in order to quantify those criticisms, mostly because even if I did who decides what the threshold is for how many viable Pokemon a champion needs to have on their team to be considered "good" and why does that even in matter in the context of in-game where the potential competitiveness of each Pokemon is totally stunted and irrelevant when used by NPCs, and shit like "well they aren't threatening" is totally subjective.

But WHY doesn't she use a Florges? Nobody else has it as their ace, and it suits her to a fucking T. She'd have two fairy types but Gardevoir isn't primarily fairy-type and I think it's unfair that ONE Pokemon can't share a type, I'm pretty every champion has had a pokemon that shared types and often multiples. I probably would have put it in over Goodra.

Blue only had one starter and it depended on whichever it was you chose.

On top of that, Cynthia's Spiritomb had no weakness (this was prior to Fairy) and her Gastrodon was a tank.

Steven's team seemed to be focused on being able to take hits while hitting really hard or whittling away at your team's HP.

At least Scamwich did a pretty nice picture of her, Gardevoir being annoyed at having to paint her toes is cute.

Honestly I'd guess that she doesn't get a lot of attention because lookswise she is something of an acquired taste and doesn't pander to everyone like Cynthia and other characters. Lack of any initial popularity further means she won't get any art. Her being better handled within the games could have possibly rectified this. At the very least allow us to find little things out about her since she is supposedly the biggest movie star in Kalos.

Unpopular opinion alert: i do like Diantha a lot, i think its a great design and idea for a champion. She's surely underused in the game but at least the manga and the anime gave her the edge she needed.

Maybe they'll redeem her in the XY remakes...
