I hope it's just another Pokemon that's native to a different island in Alola.

Like ages ago a Kommo-o saw it from really far away and was like OH SHIT WE GOTTA GET STRONG TO FIGHT THAT DARKNESS.

Maybe that Pokemon has a similar kind of tale about Kommo-o. That'd be neat.

The darkness will be Marshadow which is literally the nothingness Pokemon that came before Arceus. It has no type unless you equipt a Z-Crystal and will be the means in which GameFreak will make a reboot
