They are Marshadow transformations

it will be like Rotom. You will have to talk to Lusamine, Guzma, Gladion or crab grandpa for Marshadow to transform into their pokemon doppelgangers.

Marshadow is probably the pokemon that Lillie keeps inside of her bag.

Modified Pokeballs to suit the UB are justifiable. We need a stronger balls for those ayy lmaos. I wonder how come Master Balls (most powerful capturing tool in this world) can't do anything to do them. Something to do with their biological structure I guess?

misleading. you can "catch" them but not in the same way as normal pokemon

at best, you will be able to call them with something similar to the ride pager. you register them but they don't function like normal pokemon

you will not be able to regularly battle with them (probably limited to 1 at a time), you will not be able to put them in the box or daycare, they probably won't have a lot of stats normal pokemon do, you won't be able to do shit in amie, you won't be able to trade them either

and if I'm wrong I'm quitting pokemon

I wonder if the catchable version will have different stats from story battles?

I'm probably getting ahead of myself here but if you say fight UB-1 3 times in the game it would be a shame if it was possible to take it down really quickly due to it having say 120 HP at the time.

I played the demo and I can see totems being moderately challenging if you aren't using the exp share. Keep in mind that in the demo you are overleveled and your Greninja is orders of magnitude stronger than anything else.

I can kind of agree with you.

I thought this gen was going to be the solution to revamping old shitmons like Girafarig, Purugly, Granbull, and such that desperately needed alternate forms or stat changes, but we didn't get it.

We really need less focus on past gens. As weird and goofy as Gen5 was, I appreciated a "new" adventure where I could catch a totally different group of pokemon, where Gen 1 trash didn't litter the streets.

Out of the now seven generations of Pokemon games, Gen 5 is the only one where you didn't see a Geodude, Magikarp, Psyduck, or Zubat. It was unique.

Gen7 looks to be more of the same in terms of Gen1 pokemon being fucking everywhere and the new pokemon being on the backburner.

Multiple trials doesn't mean multiple trial captains. In fact the idea of a trial captain implies a single person giving them out.
Also while pokemon evolving into the mascot is new its still just the same fulfill requirement to evolve thing we get every tume . ironically by doing that they've made the mascots more generic than usual.

Why are you counting ORAS' megas when they weren't included in the first games of the generation? If you want to be fair, then it'd be:
Gen 6
>72 pokémon + 28 megas (in XY, including Lati@s) = 100
>and then 18 more megas and 2 primals in ORAS = 120
Gen 7
>73 pokémon (since the Cloud and the Star legendary preevos seem to individual species) + 18 alola forms + 8 ultra beasts + Ash-Greninja = 100

The next Gen 7 game is definitely going to introduce more forms, so if GF is as autistic as they seem to be with muh patterns, we should get at least 20 new things.

I get that feeling too. The Ultra beasts definitely stand out as alien in a pokemon world, more than Deoxys anyways. I can't quite put my finger on it, but their designs definitely look like the team went out of their way to make a set of creatures that would look out of place when standing next to regular Pokemon. Gotta give the art director some credit for that as the team probably have guidelines on how to get a "Pokemon" look when designing new creatures and they probably intentionally ignored them to make the UBs.

Yeah, the UBs are quickly becoming my favorite part of the prerelease season. After 20 years of sticking to the pokemon designs, the artists were free to make something completely different. It's also fun to think that maybe some of these design ideas actually came from earlier Gens but they couldn't get them to fit with the Pokemon style without sacrificing the artist's vision. I'm probably getting ahead of myself, but either way, the creative freedom behind the UBs brings me a lot of joy.

It feels uneccesary, now i understand that "OH IT'S A MONSTAH HUNTIN' GAME WHY WOULDN'T THEY BE CATCHABLE?" but the way they were promoted and the entire plot revolving around these things INVADING and not just being part of the world felt like they were legitimately going to be rad bosses that lend their power to defeat their leader and the overall big bad or some kid-friendly message bullshit, but now it's all but coming straight from john gamefreak's mouth they kinda feel a bit dull... well whatever in the end, i don't have to catch them anyways hopefully...

I still have hope you battle beefed up of them and catch them with the aid of a special item that limits/stablizes their power or something, handing the player a more balanced for use version; I don't think that is likely to happen, but I still want to believe GF isn't retard enough to have a bunch of boss battles that aren't more powerful than regular pokémon. Since the totems have stat buffs and the ally mechanic, they at least acknowledge that battles against one pokemon need a twist.

The most difficult thing about battling a legendary is not killing it. And since they keep stressing the plot relevance of the UBs, I think there will be battles against them during the story before you can capture them, like Kyurem in BW2.

They've been plot devices since 2002, but it's only been gens 5 and 6 that FORCE you too catch them to progress the game. In gens 3 and 4 you can just kill them and the game goes on.

Look at summons in the Final Fantasy games
When you battle them the first time they're far more powerful then when you summon it

Just give them multiple abilities, weather and boosted stats especially HP

Having a boss which you can't catch so the developers don't have to worry about making it balanced so you don't completely and utterly destroy the rest of the game, which in turn means it's actually remotely difficult rather than just "throw balls until you've caught it"
